Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to perform routine turf and athletic field maintenance; perform equipment, facility, and grounds maintenance; and perform some routine equipment maintenance and repairs. This is accomplished by operating a variety of equipment; loading and hauling equipment using a truck and trailer; completing routine mowing, spraying, and athletic field work; and completing maintenance tasks as instructed. Other duties include assisting with special event setup and teardown as well as storm cleanup.

  • Completes routine turf management functions (mowing, trimming, spraying, ball field preparation).
  • Follows safety procedures of the equipment and ensure that equipment is operated correctly.
  • Operates a variety of equipment to complete Park construction and repair work.
  • Loads and transports equipment (mowers, trimmers, tractors, ballfield tractors, power and hand tools) as needed.
  • Receives and follows project outlines and instructions.
  • Performs minor equipment maintenance.
  • Coordinates heavy equipment repairs and maintenance with fleet division.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on small engine equipment.
  • Provides event support by assisting with event setups and breakdowns.
  • Drives truck and trailer through town to all assigned parks and ballfields.
  • Sprays turf and ballfields as directed to prevent weeds and maintain safe playing surface.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or GED; and
  • At least 1 year experience operating various light to medium duty turf equipment (mowers, ballfield tractors, paint machines, sprayers, power and hand tools).
Knowledge of:
  • machines and tools of the Parks Division, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Skill in:
  • controlling operations of assigned equipment.
  • using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • talking to others to convey information effectively.
Ability to:
  • operate assigned equipment.
  • work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public
  • work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
