Position Summary: The AssociateBasketball Analyst - Coaching, Basketball Data Strategy occupies a dual role between the Basketball Data Strategy group and the Lakers coaching staff. Primarily responsible for supporting the lead Basketball Analyst - Coaching, this role serves as a liaison and resource for the coaching and player development staff. Under the direction of the lead Analyst, the Associate Analyst will provide statistics, reports, and key points of emphasis to support game preparation and in-game decision making. In addition, this individual will support player development via goal-setting, facilitating regular check-ins, and evaluating performance across games and practice for both the NBA and G League teams. This position operates at the pace of the NBA season, requiring consistent availability to meet the day-to-day information needs of the staff, attending every home game and practice, and producing nightly reports. Travel may periodically be required.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities**):
  • Attend coaching staff meetings and practices, proactively supplying information to the coaching staff and Basketball Data Strategy staff; respond to information requests from coaching and player development staff in a timely, organized, and efficient manner
  • Create in-season reports for opponent scouting and self-evaluation
  • Create, track, and monitor player development goals using in-house and third-party statistics and metrics; originate additional player development statistics and metrics
  • Periodically supporting the analytical needs of the G League coaching and player development staff, ensuring continuity of player tracking, development and game reporting across the NBA and G League staffs
  • Utilize SQL and other programming skills to build analytical tools; leverage existing and emerging technology / datasets to enhance evaluation for game planning and player development
  • Communicate results and findings to relevant stakeholders in Basketball Operations

**Responsibilities subject to change based on organizational needs and direction from management.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative field preferred, or equivalent academic or professional experience required

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of NBA basketball
  • Hands-on experience with basketball analytics; college or NBA environments preferred
  • Expertise with large data sets, statistical analysis (e.g. Python), and relational database tools (e.g. SQL Server)
  • Experience translating analytical findings into clear visualizations and presentations for stakeholders
  • Clear and precise written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have a high motor, be self-motivated, and take pride in the quality and accuracy of their work in a high-pressure environment; ability to take feedback in stride and work as part of a functional team

Other Qualifications:
  • Adaptable, eager to self-learn new technical skills

Location: El Segundo (office M-F), Crypto.com Arena (downtown LA), and travel as required by team
Hours: Full-time.Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required by game schedules.
The pay range for this role is $115,000 - $125,000 annually. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and certifications. In addition to those factors, we consider the relative pay of our current employees in similar positions when making a final offer.
