Neonatal Registered Respiratory Therapist – (NICU RRT – I)

The Neonatal Registered Respiratory Therapist – (NICU RRT – I), functions in a multi-faceted role that demonstrates professionalism and promotes excellence in the practice of respiratory care. The NICU RRT–I will be responsible for the respiratory assessment, therapeutic treatment, evaluation, testing, education and communication as it pertains to the patients and processes in the Level III NICU. The NICU RRT–I will provide neonatal airway management, including intubation with assistance, resuscitation and stabilization for all high-risk deliveries. The NICU RRT–I must interface with all members of the neonatal health care team. The NICU RRT–I is expected to provide an exceptional patient experience for our babies and their families. The NICU RRT–I is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Ohio Respiratory Care Laws, applicable regulatory standards, and institutional and system policies.

Education: Associate degree in respiratory care and a graduate of AMA /CoARC accredited program for Respiratory Care. Licensure: Holds and maintains an Ohio license to practice respiratory care. Certification : CRT /RRT credential by the NBRC. BLS and NRP for health care providers must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment. Experience: A minimum of 2 years' Level III NICU experience is preferred. Skills/Other : The RRT must be able to successfully complete the clinical and didactic orientations for neonatal critical care area. In order to maintain the status of a Registered Neonatal Respiratory Therapist, the incumbent must successfully complete the annual competencies provided by the department for the appropriate patient care areas. Traits: Enthusiasm for a self-motivating work environment, curiosity for new work processes and clinical strategies, demonstrated willingness to cross normal lines of responsibility to improve flow in the workgroup, demonstrated business communication skills across different work groups and populations, demonstrated problem-solving, demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize multiple key activities.

DIMENSION/SCOPE The neonatal respiratory therapists of the Department of Respiratory Care provide 24/7 service to the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The neonatal respiratory therapist has advanced knowledge and skills in all aspects of neonatal respiratory care, as it pertains to the Level III NICU. The neonatal respiratory therapist interfaces with medical staff, nursing staff, and other allied health practitioners, as well as patients, their families and their caregivers.
