The title 'Mx.' is a gender-neutral honorific used by individuals who do not wish to specify their gender or identify outside the traditional binary. In a professional context, using 'Mx.' on your application can signal your preference for gender inclusivity. Several professions can reach a $200,000 annual income without requiring a college degree, including commercial pilots, real estate brokers, sales managers, and certain skilled trades like elevator installers and power plant operators. Job description

MX is seeking a Digital Marketing Specialist who is genuinely exceptional at what they do, not a generalist who understands digital, but someone who is deep in the digital space and has the experience and results to prove it.
You'll own MX's digital presence: the website, our search performance across SEO, AEO, and GEO, email marketing, and our social channels. This is the most outward expression of our brand and the engine of our marketing program. A website overhaul is already underway. The brand is being relaunched. And buyers are rapidly shifting how they find agencies, so the right candidate will know how to ensure MX shows up where they look.
You'll report to the Director of Marketing and collaborate closely with MX's internal agency teams, including media, data & analytics, content, and creative, as well as our external PR firm. This is not a role for someone who waits to be directed. It's for a digital native who sees what needs improvement, owns the fix, and delivers results.
What You'll Do
Website Performance & Optimization
  • Own the ongoing testing, optimization, and continuous improvement of the website: UX, conversion, site speed, content structure, and overall performance. Use data to identify opportunities and run structured experiments to act on them.
  • Own MX's search visibility across traditional SEO, AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews), and generative search. Drive ongoing iteration of strategy, performance monitoring, and optimization.
  • Support the development of content creation across the organization, needed to increase discoverability and to feed into our social and email marketing programs.
Social Media
  • Develop and execute a social media strategy that positions MX credibly and compellingly in the B2B marketing community and accurately represents MX among its competitive set.
  • Create high-quality native content yourself and inspire colleagues across the agency to contribute as well.
Email Marketing & Nurture
  • Own MX's email engine in HubSpot. From always-on nurture sequences to campaign sends. Your goal: make every email touchpoint from first contact through sales handoff feel intentional, not automated.
  • Evaluate scoring models and lead quality to understand the effectiveness of these efforts and how we can evolve our efforts to create a consistent experience for website visitors.
Digital Campaign Collaboration
  • Partner with MX's Activation (media) team to execute and optimize paid digital campaigns across social, programmatic display, paid search, and CTV, bringing performance insights into planning and optimization conversations.
Intangibles
  • Be a visible, energetic, and collaborative presence in the Burr Ridge office that makes MX employees excited to participate in marketing activities.
  • Don't shy away from the performance of campaigns - run to them to understand how the work is impacting the pipeline and what you can do to support our growth.
What We're Looking For
  • 4-6+ years of digital marketing experience with deep, demonstrated expertise in website optimization and SEO/AEO/GEO, not just exposure to them
  • Genuine social media mastery: you understand native content, platform-specific best practices, and what makes B2B brands compelling (not boring) on social
  • A proactive, self-directed mindset: you don't wait to be told what to fix. You find it, own it, and improve it.
  • Proficiency with HubSpot, WordPress, Google Analytics, and LinkedIn Campaign Manager
  • B2B marketing experience, enough to understand the audience, the buying cycle, and what actually drives results
  • Comfort in an agency environment: fast-paced, collaborative, and occasionally unpredictable
  • In-office presence at our Burr Ridge, IL headquarters, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday minimum, and any day clients or collaboration require
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or a related field; equivalent experience considered
What Makes This Role Different
MX is a B2B marketing agency - one of the best in the country - and our people know what good looks like. The bar for our own marketing is high, and your colleagues will hold you to it. That's the challenge.
The flip side: you'll have the full resources of the agency behind you. You won't be doing everything yourself. When you need media, creative, data, or content support, it's available. What we need from you is the expertise, the initiative, and the ownership to drive results with those resources.
This is also a moment. The website is being rebuilt. The brand is being relaunched. AI search is reshaping how buyers find agencies. The right candidate will see an enormous amount of white space here - and will want to run at it.
About MX
A leading independent B2B marketing agency, MX has been helping complex B2B companies build their brands, drive demand, and grow revenue for over 35 years. We are the second largest independent B2B agency in the United States, yet one of the industry's best-kept secrets and we're working to change that. We've been named one of the Best and Brightest Companies to Work For in Chicago for nine years running and in the Nation for three consecutive years. Our work spans Strategy & Insights, Creative & Production, Content Marketing, Digital Marketing & Media, Lead Gen & Nurture, Channel Marketing, Digital Experience, and Martech & Data.
Compensation
Compensation Range: $90,000 - $100,000 annually. MX believes it will pay this pay range for this position at the time of this posting. Compensation will be determined based on the applicant's experience, skills, and qualifications, in addition to the requirements of the position. MX reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. This role qualifies for MX's benefits offering, including medical, dental, vision, 401 (k), and paid time off.
MX is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. That means we not only provide equal opportunity and consideration to all employees and applicants for employment - we welcome it. We won't unlawfully discriminate on the basis of gender identity or expression, race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, age, sex, marital status, physical or mental disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, and any other category protected by law, because we believe diversity drives us to deliver more valuable and meaningful experiences to clients and employees.
During the recruitment process, MX will only communicate using our corporate domain name (themxgroup.com) and will never ask for personal information other than contact information and job history until an offer has been made. Additionally, MX will never request that you purchase anything during any part of the recruitment or hiring process. You can read more about detecting and reporting employment scams at the Internet Crime Complaint Center and Federal Trade Commission websites. If you see an MX job posting that you suspect may be fraudulent, please send an email to recruiting@themxgroup.com so we can review it promptly.
