Position Summary
The Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University Indianapolis invites applications for a two-year visiting appointment as a Lecturer in Music Therapy in the Department of Music and Arts Technology which offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. This is a full time, non-tenured track, 10-month position beginning August 1, 2026.
This position provides opportunities to further develop a creative and innovative music therapy program with unique access to clinical, research, and community partners, enhancing student and faculty experiences. Ideal candidates will have teaching experience and will be expected to provide teaching coverage.
The Music Therapy Program embraces the impact creative therapies have upon the health and mental well-being of those who we engage. Located on a Health and Life Science campus, this program recognizes music's ability to contribute to healing and its unique ability to serve as a vehicle for engaging with patients, family members and other caregivers in meaningful and effective ways. Our relationship with both urban and rural communities provide a wide range of opportunities in a unique learning environment creating fertile territory for pedagogical advances and contributions to the field.
This program is approved and accredited by the National Association of School Music (NASM) and the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) providing students with skills necessary to practice as music therapists with curriculums also involving modern music technologies.
In accordance with accreditation standards, primary responsibilities include:
  • Supervision of clinical placements, practicums, and internships
  • Teaching coursework within the Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy degree
  • Developing relationship with potential clinical sites and supervisors

The candidate must comply with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations and/or agency rules, standards, and guidelines, etc. including requirements for board certification and licensure, as appropriate: adhere to AMTA Standards of Clinical Practice and Code of Ethics; and engage in on-going clinical supervision and continuing education opportunities consistent with professional standards.

Basic Qualifications
  • Master's degree in music therapy or closely related field
  • Professional credential or designation in music therapy (e.g., MT-BAC; ACMT;CMT; RMT)
  • Experiences with project management, music therapy in medical settings, and collaboration with community partners to establish practicum and/or internship sites are preferred
  • Evidence of previous college-level teaching and/or clinical coordination and supervision preferred
