Job description
The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music invites applications for a part-time Lecturer in Music Industry for the Fall quarter of the 2026-27 academic year. The position will staff the first of a two-quarter sequence of courses in Finance and Accounting for the Music Industry, designed as an introduction to the financial structures and principles that underpin the business of music, including touring, royalties, artist management, recording, publishing, and merchandising for first- and second-year Music Industry major students. Salary will be commensurate with applicant's qualifications and experience.
Applicants should understand finance and accounting in the entertainment industries, including management of funds, budgeting, financial analysis, fee scales, servicing agreements, royalties, licensing, etc. They should have the ability to communicate financial principles and techniques to music students not specializing in finance and be ready to work with students possessing differing levels of quantitative skill.
Responsibilities will include individual student teaching supervision and assigned undergraduate courses in the School of Music. Applicants with a graduate degree in Music Business, Finance, Accounting or related fields; or with a relevant professional certification; or with relevant professional experience, experience in the music industry will be preferred.
Applications must include: 1) a cover letter stating interest in the position and summarizing relevant experience, 2) a comprehensive resume or curriculum vitae, 3) a statement of teaching philosophy, 4) a response to the University's Mission Statement, 5) a reference check authorization release and 6) names and contact information for at least three professional references. Applicants may consider including online video links representing their teaching although doing so is not required.
Applications will be reviewed by the search committee as they are submitted with a deadline of July 31, 2026, for Fall quarter employment. The anticipated Fall quarter service period start date is September 21, 2026.
