Marbles Kids Museum is a vibrant, nonprofit children's museum and IMAX Theatre located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Marbles has been sparking imagination, discovery, and learning through play since opening its doors in 2007. Marbles' serves a diverse population of families, school groups, and community organizations through award-winning play-based exhibits, summer camps, IMAX documentaries, feature movies, and special events year-round. Today Marbles ranks among the top family destinations in North Carolina providing learning experiences for children with creative programs, and larger-than-life movies.
The Opportunity
At Marbles' PlayStore imagination, discovery and learning come to life through our mix of innovative, educational and whimsical children's merchandise. The store's toys and games are specially picked to complement the play in our exhibits, meet a child's developmental needs and give them the opportunity to take home the power of play.
We're seeking an enthusiastic, customer-focused PlayStore Host looking to create playful experiences for our guests. The host is responsible for opening and closing duties, customer transactions, and maintaining the visual appeal of the store.
Job Responsibilities
  • Complete opening and closing duties.
  • Provide an exceptional guest experience that is aligned with Marbles customer service procedures.
  • Effectively communicate scheduling, inventory, and other operational issues with your manager.
  • Operate the store register and process all store transactions accurately.
  • Stock retail products; may inventory or receive products as directed.
  • Maintain the visual appeal of the store through regular tidying, returning misplaced merchandise, and general upkeep of the store.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all work areas and completes special projects as assigned.
  • Assist with all unboxing and tagging projects as assigned by the PlayStore manager.
  • Maintain working knowledge of store products and share knowledge and suggestions with guests.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the manager.

Ideal Experience and Skills
  • One year of customer service experience, particularly with families and young children (preferred).
  • Retail experience is a plus.
  • Experience with point-of-sale and inventory software (Shopify and Tessitura experience preferred).
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to establish goals, set priorities, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands
  • Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Occasionally using a ladder and going up and down stairs.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Schedule
  • Saturday and Sunday availability is required.
  • Weekday availability is a plus.
  • Schedule flexibility is required including weekends, evenings and holidays (preferred availability on weekends between 8:30am-5:30pm).

Work Environment
  • Occasional exposure to noisy and crowded atmosphere.
  • May be needed to walk between two buildings with some outdoor exposure.
