SUMMARY: The Marketing and Public Relations Manager leads the development, coordination, and execution of the Museum’s marketing and public relations initiatives to increase visibility, strengthen community engagement, and support attendance and revenue goals. Responsibilities include developing and implementing communication strategies; overseeing advertising, promotions, social media, website content, publications, and media relations; supporting special events and marketing-related grant writing; and collaborating with an external marketing firm on strategic planning and implementation. The Manager also develops, tracks, and manages marketing budgets and expenditures, reviews performance against approved budgets, and helps ensure the effective use of marketing resources. Additionally, this position cultivates relationships with donors, sponsors, media representatives, and community organizations; monitors marketing trends and campaign results; supports fundraising efforts; and ensures consistent, accurate messaging across all platforms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develops, coordinates, and implements the Museum’s marketing, communications, and public relations activities in support of its mission, attendance, membership, program participation, special events, fundraising, and revenue goals.
In collaboration with Museum leadership, appropriate staff, and the Museum’s external marketing firm, develops and implements an annual strategic marketing plan designed to attract and retain Museum visitors, program participants, members, donors, and event attendees from local and regional markets.
Develops, tracks, and manages the Museum’s marketing and public relations budgets. Monitors expenditures against approved budgets; reviews invoices, media purchases, and agency charges for accuracy; maintains supporting records; and provides regular reports on budget performance and anticipated needs.
Coordinates the work of the Museum’s external marketing firm and other marketing vendors, including project planning, schedules, deliverables, creative development, media placement, performance reporting, and adherence to approved budgets.
Develops and implements communications strategies that keep the public informed about the Museum’s mission, programs, exhibits, events, accomplishments, and community impact while ensuring consistent and accurate messaging across all platforms.
Plans, coordinates, and evaluates the Museum’s advertising and promotional activities, including print, digital, outdoor, radio, television, email, direct mail, and other appropriate media. Researches advertising opportunities and recommends placements based on audience, cost, and anticipated effectiveness.
Oversees the development, production, and distribution of Museum publications, brochures, advertisements, press releases, public service announcements, and other promotional materials.
Writes, edits, and maintains content for the Museum’s websites, publications, email communications, and other marketing platforms. Coordinates website design, content, and creative updates with appropriate staff and outside service providers.
Maintains an active and engaging social media presence; develops and executes social media campaigns; and creates or coordinates original photographic, video, and written content for social media and other marketing channels.
Develops and maintains relationships with media representatives; keeps media contact information current; responds to media inquiries; identifies local, regional, state, and national publicity opportunities; and serves as an on-air or public spokesperson when requested.
Leads the marketing and public relations activities for Museum special events and assists with event planning and implementation. Attends Museum special events and other activities as required to provide marketing, media, and communications support.
Collects and analyzes attendance, audience, digital engagement, advertising, and other relevant marketing data. Evaluates campaign performance, identifies trends, and recommends adjustments to improve results and the effective use of marketing resources.
Works collaboratively with Museum managers and directors to identify marketing needs, coordinate promotional schedules, gather program information, and advance the Museum’s visibility and community support.
Represents the Museum through appropriate community organizations, meetings, and activities to increase public awareness, cultivate partnerships, and strengthen relationships with community stakeholders.
Researches, writes, administers, and reports on marketing-related grants and sponsorship commitments, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, deadlines, budgets, and required recognition.
Collaborates with Development and Membership staff in creating annual fund appeals, membership promotions, sponsorship materials, and other fundraising communications.
Engages with current and prospective visitors, members, donors, sponsors, community partners, and other stakeholders through appropriate communications to encourage participation and strengthen support for the Museum.
Prepares regular reports for the President/CEO, Board, and other Museum stakeholders regarding marketing activities, campaign results, public relations efforts, budget performance, and other relevant measures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises marketing and public relations interns, as assigned, and collaborates with staff throughout the Museum to promote its mission, programs, events, and activities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 4-6 years related experience and/or training OR equivalent combination of experience and education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standard scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Driver's License and Safe Driving Record
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of computers, ability to use a personal computer, experience with standard business and fund-raising software, experience with multiline phone systems, and ability to maintain and update website content.
Basic knowledge of Meta Business Suite, HTML programming, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, MailChimp, and JotForm is preferred.
