DescriptionReporting to the Arts & Culture Program Manager, this position will work in close collaboration with all staff members to plan, implement and evaluate the museum's educational programming. This position requires a person who is enthusiastic, self-directed and has a sense of cooperation. The Education and Public Programs Coordinator will create and implement programs for all age levels in various media utilizing but not limited to the collection, exhibitions, techniques, and other art form collaborations that stimulate learning about and through the arts. This role involves researching and developing both 2D & 3D digital programs and integrating emerging technologies in the classroom. He/she will also develop and maintain positive relationships with the public and private school system, parents and children, students and teachers, senior communities and colleagues in the museum field. Our goal is to ensure that the educational focus is clearly articulated and communicated, while working to build strong and engaged audience through but not limited to classes, workshops, demos, online learning etc. The Education and Public Programs Coordinator builds and oversees a team of Instructors, volunteers, and contract program providers; should be organized and detail-oriented; friendly with a sense of humor; exhibit strong communication skills; possess teaching ability; have an understanding of non-profit operation; leader and team player; and express interest in working in an arts setting with varied audiences. This individual should also have a strong understanding of supplies, studio equipment and studio functionality.
Examples of Duties- Coordinates youth and adult programming which may include special needs, autism, teens, and homeschooling and senior populations.
- Oversees all aspects of Camps (Summer, Spring Break, Holidays) including class offering and schedule.
- Assists Arts & Culture Program Manager with public projects, special events, speaker series, and programming.
- Builds programming relationships with outside entities, and represents the museum in community events.
- Researches and develops programs that incorporate new technologies into museum's curriculum.
- Collects and analyzes data and creates reports to turn into grant analyzer.
- Participates in community outreach, including Parent Education and Principal Education groups.
- Greets class participants and instructors in the first class of each new session.
- Conducts teacher performance evaluations via student feedback on classes and observations.
- Assesses and evaluates instructors and programs.
- Assists in the hiring and recruiting process and manages all instructors.
- Recruits, organizes, and oversees volunteers, including docents, and teen volunteers.
- Participates in the management of the internship program, in conjunction with Operations Administrator.
- Responsible for upkeep of classrooms including inventory/supplies, cleanliness, organization and studio equipment/space functionality.
- Partners with the Marketing Department to increase class participation numbers.
- Oversees education budget.
- Serves as liaison to the Artist Guild including coordinating activities, exhibitions, newsletters, and attending monthly Guild Gatherings.
- Attends all museum related events and meetings.
- Sustains a friendly, positive rapport with other staff members.
- Flexible schedule required to work evenings and weekends as needed and heightened busy summer season.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Typical QualificationsBachelor's degree in arts, education, Museum Studies, Not for Profit Organization, Museum Management, Business, Finance, or a related field. Three (3) to Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with non-profit organizations, arts programming, and arts education. A combination of education and experience considered. Must have excellent customer service orientation and strong writing, editing skills. Working knowledge of Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Supplemental InformationWork environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
