Position Summary: 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leads the Museum’s K-12 public, private, parochial, and home school programs and develops new effective and relevant museum programs related to collections and special exhibitions that serve the evolving, diverse curricular needs of students
  • Ensures that school programs are accessible, equitable and inclusive for diverse school age audiences
  • Manages the Norton School Partnership program; seeks out and designs new Norton School Partnership opportunities
  • Build relationships with diverse school staff and administrators across the community to strengthen and expand Museum programs
  • Plans and coordinates teacher professional development programs with teachers, principals, and District administrators; plans and executes new initiatives, including Summer Teachers' Institute
  • Grows school tours, home school tours, and virtual school tour audiences by 10% per year above prior year attendance, ensuring effectiveness of programs
  • Develops and manages School and Teacher Programs’ budget
  • Collaborate with colleagues in LCE and other departments on festivals and special exhibition projects.
  • Serves with Directors of Public Programs, Family and Community Programs, and Audience Engagement as management team reporting to Chief Officer of Learning and Community Engagement
  • Manages the School and Teacher Programs team; guiding their growth as a museum educators, and evaluates their performance
  • Oversees promotion, scheduling of school tours, reviews docent schedule as prepared monthly
  • Develops new digital content for online teacher resources on Museum’s website. Coordinates design with Communications department. Reviews and updates webpages
  • Works with Communications staff to prepare marketing materials and accurate content for school and teacher program promotion on website, social media, printed advertising, and other platforms
  • Works with Development staff to seek funding for programs, develop grant proposals, and maintain records for grant reports.
  • Organizes the Teacher Advisory Council and hosts its meetings
  • Contributes to managing LCE department internships, including Summer Internship Program
  • Contributes to the work of the Museum's Learning and Community Engagement Committee
  • Oversee all aspects of Marden Community Gallery student exhibitions
  • Leads school tours; models effective gallery teaching techniques
  • Stays informed of trends in museum education and programming.
  • Trains docents and interns to work with school-age audiences in the galleries
  • Assists with teaching Family and Public Programs as needed
  • Collaborate with other staff to develop and lead programs for children and adult audiences with disabilities
  • Evaluates School and Teacher programs on a regular basis for efficacy and community impact
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • MA in Art History, Education, Museum Studies, or related field preferred
  • 3-5 years professional museum experience with children and/or experience teaching in a classroom
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook; Altru (can be trained on the job)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate the Museum's vision
  • High standards for efficiency, quality, and accuracy
  • Skill in leading, managing, and building cohesive teams.
  • Ability to work with varied constituencies and partners
  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to deliver on-time and on-budget, and to organize time efficiently.

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position must be able to move about inside and outside the office; to frequently communicate with managers and employees, ability to access and operate computer and other office equipment; and ability to lift, move or carry up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Ability to greet groups at bus stop/Museum entrance, lead group tours on occasion and introduce docents their classes; may be required to assist audience members with disabilities on occasion; other light physical effort on occasion.

Hours and Compensation: 

  • Monday-Friday 9am-5pm (occasional nights and weekends as needed)
  • Full-Time, Exempt
  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Location Requirements:

At the time of employment, employees are expected to be located within reasonable commuting distance of the museum. Commuting Distance means they are located in South Florida, and able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
