Job description

With a strong, diverse, and exciting backlog of municipal engineering assignments, RK&K is looking for self-motivated and highly collaborative Senior Project Engineers and Project Managers to lead a variety of municipal water/wastewater infrastructure projects involving feasibility studies, engineering design, preparation of construction documents, and construction management. As a Project Manager in ourWater/Wastewatergroup, you will have an opportunity to deliver complex and rewarding projects while marketing municipal clients in the Mid-Atlantic regions from our practice inRaleigh or Charlotte, NC.

Essential Functions

  • Develop project deliverables including coordination of engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Solve complex problems, providing technical and economic feasibility evaluations, and identify/assess benefits and disadvantages of alternative solutions for water/wastewater clients
  • Manage a variety of existing and potential water/wastewater pipeline and facility projects
  • Deliver world class results on municipal project including sewage collection/conveyance, water transmission/storage/distribution, infrastructure condition assessment and rehabilitation, water/wastewater treatment, stormwater management, and much more
  • Mentor and develop less experienced/junior engineering professionals, establishing growth opportunities and building project delivery teams
  • Negotiate and manage project scopes of work, schedules and budgets for water/wastewater projects
  • Routinely utilize internal systems for project management, quality control, and quality assurance
  • Interface with clients, state and federal agencies and subconsultants to pursue, win and execute water/wastewater projects
  • Identify and create project opportunities by networking with existing and potential clients, including public and private utilities and related agencies including funding agencies
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients including helping them identify and prioritize infrastructure work
  • Support office and firm leadership in marketing and pursuit of new work leads focusing primarily on water/wastewater municipal clients

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or related engineering field
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in consulting engineering in the municipal Water/Wastewater industry, with a progression of responsibility including project delivery and business development
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) registration in North Carolina, or ability to obtain NC registration within six months.
  • Existing municipal/private engineering client relationships and/or the ability to develop and nurture such relationships
  • Knowledge of project funding mechanisms in North Carolina
  • Motivated to find creative solutions to civil engineering problems
  • Proficiency in communicating technical information
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Advanced degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field
  • Project Management Professional Certification
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, BIM
