Job description

Service Technician II – Power Generation Equipment

Full-Time • Non-Exempt • In the Field • Field Service

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Service Technician II to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of diesel-powered generation equipment and related systems. In this hands-on role, you'll perform preventative maintenance, diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, complete repairs, and ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.

What You'll DoPreventative Maintenance & Equipment Service
  • Perform preventative maintenance on power generation equipment according to established maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Conduct detailed inspections of generators and supporting systems to identify potential issues before they become major repairs.
  • Inspect, service, and repair fuel, cooling, and electrical systems.
  • Manage and track inventory needs during inspection and repair processes.
  • Request parts, equipment, and supplies necessary to complete repairs and maintain inventory levels.
Troubleshooting, Diagnostics & Repairs
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot diesel engine, electrical, and power generation system failures.
  • Identify required replacement parts and coordinate ordering as needed.
  • Perform standard and intermediate-level repairs on generators and supporting accessories.
  • Disassemble, reassemble, and install mechanical, electrical, and electronic components.
  • Perform engine diagnostics, fuel system troubleshooting, valve adjustments, and engine repairs.
  • Update and adjust generator controller software using laptop-based diagnostic tools.
  • Diagnose generator voltage selector, AVR, and controller-related issues.
  • Utilize diagnostic software, testing equipment, schematics, and service manuals to isolate and resolve equipment problems.
Electrical Systems & Testing
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
  • Perform wiring tasks including cutting, routing, terminating, and attaching wires to electrical components.
  • Install and repair relays, switches, circuit breakers, solenoids, terminal blocks, bus panels, reconnection boards, and control systems.
  • Perform continuity and functional testing using ohmmeters, test lights, and other electrical testing instruments.
  • Assemble and repair electrical harnesses, junction boxes, control panels, and related components.
Generator Setup, Testing & Compliance
  • Set up and test generators utilizing portable load bank systems.
  • Calculate load requirements and ensure proper testing procedures are followed.
  • Inspect testing equipment and cables to ensure safe operation.
  • Conduct DOT inspections and repairs on company-manufactured trailers.
  • Participate in DOT certification testing opportunities offered through the company.
Collaboration & Customer Support
  • Work closely with fellow technicians to ensure repairs are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Assist senior technicians on advanced repairs and complex projects when needed.
  • Communicate technical findings and repair recommendations clearly and professionally.
  • Prepare accurate and timely service reports and documentation.
  • Attend meetings, training programs, and technical development courses as assigned.
Safety & Quality
  • Perform all work in accordance with company quality standards and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Support operational goals through additional duties as assigned.
What You'll BringExperience & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with current-model (2016 and newer) power generation equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting diesel engine generators and electrical systems is required.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Completion of, or active participation in, Level II technical training programs (such as Isuzu, John Deere, or Multiquip training) preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of diesel engine and power generation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, troubleshooting flowcharts, and service manuals.
  • Experience performing electrical repairs, wiring installations, and continuity testing.
  • Proficiency using diagnostic software and generator controller systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair fuel systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, and engine components.
  • Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, web-based service platforms, and reporting systems.
