Job description

GIS Department Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced Department Manager who will utilize leadership and GIS-related skills to manage multiple projects, train support staff, and generate projects for their region.

This position requires strong leadership, profitability, and client management for the project design team, including financial performance, preparation of technical proposals and invoices, monitoring of project budgets, staff supervision, scheduling of projects, and responsibility for staff guidance on project assignments. Must have good communication skills and the ability to work alongside multi-department office staff and senior management to successfully support GIS project tasks from those departments, within established budgets and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and manages operations to ensure the quality of the technical products.
  • Establishes effective long-range objectives, goals, and plans for assigned team.
  • Provides technical and management leadership to the assigned team.
  • Develops marketing program in conjunction with discipline goals.
  • Reviews monthly productivity and labor hour utilization rates, reports, and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Assigns projects to staff and schedules work.
  • Evaluate Employee Performance in accordance with company policy.
  • Responsible for maintaining the backlog for staff assigned.
  • Responsible for the hiring of all Discipline staff within their team.
  • Develops the skills and abilities of staff that are necessary for the successful execution of the work.
  • Utilize the company standard GIS procedures and participate in developing new/enhanced procedures.
  • Perform direct report annual and midyear reviews, responsible for setting career path goals with staff members, and ensuring those goals can be achieved through mentoring.
  • Active involvement with marketing and business development.
  • Ensures compliance with and enforces company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
