Job description

The Office of Student Life is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's Indiana University (IU) experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Office of Student Life staff and multiple departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. Students are our priority, and their health, safety, and overall well-being are our core mission. IU's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is proud to be a department within the Office of Student Life who collaborates closely within IU's Student Health Center.
Job Summary
The licensed clinician role involves the delivery of clinical services to IU students. Particular attention will be paid to reaching historically excluded and oppressed identities, to increase help-seeking behaviors and disrupt harmful narratives. In addition to psychotherapy services, this clinician is also expected to provide education outreach to the Indiana University campus community and participate in the training program.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Provides direct clinical services to Indiana University, Bloomington students though individual and group therapy
  • Conducts crisis appointments both during and outside the crisis coverage time for students who request them (there is no expectation for after-hours on-call rotations)
  • Supplements counseling, when appropriate, with referral to other resources in the University such as academic support, career services, student advocates, and Accessibility Education Services
  • Engages fully in educational and preventive outreach activities both during and outside the normal business hours
  • Serves on standing committees of interest or as assigned by Director of CAPS
  • Supervises CAPS trainees who may be providing services in the same language other than English as the clinician
  • Maintains accurate, timely clinical notes in accordance with CAPS policies and procedures
  • Documents relevant consultation in the client's chart
  • Collaborates with other members of the department's multi-disciplinary staff, including consulting with and referring to other professionals when appropriate (e.g., psychiatrists, medical providers, and dietitians)
  • Conducts inter-educational seminars to trainees or staff, as requested by Training Director or Director of CAPS
  • Contributes to the American Psychological Association (APA) Accredited Internship in Health Service Psychology by providing oversight of psychological assessment procedures and activities at CAPS
  • Coordinates the CAPS psychological Assessment services
General Responsibilities
  • Provides direct clinical service including evaluation and testing to identify cognitive difficulties that may impede the patient's normal functions
  • Provides individual, group, and relationship counseling
  • Provides crisis intervention and online counseling
  • Documents clinical activities according to standards, procedures, and policies
  • Provides individual clinical supervision to counselors/psychologists in training
  • Facilitates group case consultation for counselors/psychologists in training
  • Provides direct observation and video review of clinical sessions to provide feedback
  • Reviews and co-signs all clinical documentation for supervised positions
  • Participates in community outreach programs regarding mental health
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • Ph.D. in psychology from an APA accredited program
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 1 year post-doctoral clinical service under supervision of a licensed psychologist
  • Completion of a pre-doctoral internship that meets licensure standards for the State of Indiana
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
  • Licensed Psychologist must be licensed in the State of Indiana or be eligible for licensure within 180 Days of hire

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients.
