Job description

Bring New Homes to Life

At MTB Mechanical, we’re not just installing HVAC systems—we’re ensuring every new homeowner experiences comfort from day one. We’re looking for a detail-driven Residential HVAC Start-Up Technician to perform the critical final step: testing, commissioning, and validating system performance.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys precision work, problem-solving, and working in a fast-paced new construction environment—without the demands of an on-call rotation.

Job Summary

The Residential HVAC Start-Up Technician is responsible for the start-up, testing, commissioning, and warranty service of newly installed HVAC systems. This role ensures all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.

Qualifications:
  • Perform start-up and commissioning of residential HVAC systems in new construction homes
  • Verify proper installation of equipment prior to system start-up
  • Test system performance, including airflow, refrigerant levels, electrical components, and controls
  • Calibrate thermostats and system settings for optimal performance and efficiency
  • Diagnose and complete warranty-related service calls on new installations
  • Identify and troubleshoot installation or performance issues
  • Ensure all systems meet manufacturer specifications and local code requirements
  • Accurately complete all documentation, reports, and start-up checklists
  • Educate homeowners on basic system operation and maintenance
  • Communicate findings and recommendations with installation teams and supervisors
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized work environment
What You Bring
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–3+ years of HVAC experience (installation, start-up, or new construction preferred)
  • EPA Certification (required)
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Strong understanding of residential HVAC systems and start-up procedures
  • Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and installation layouts
  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail—you catch what others miss
Bonus If You Have
  • Experience in residential new construction environments
  • Familiarity with airflow balancing and system optimization
  • Knowledge of local codes and inspection requirements
Who This Role Is Perfect For
  • Someone who thrives in a structured, production-style environment
  • Enjoys working on brand-new systems vs. service calls all day
  • Takes pride in system performance, quality control, and getting it right the first time
  • Works well with installers, builders, and fast-moving schedules
Why MTB Mechanical?
  • Growing company with consistent new construction work
  • No on-call rotation
  • Opportunity to sharpen technical skills and grow your career
  • Competitive pay + overtime opportunities
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement plan options
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Company vehicle (if applicable)
  • Team-oriented culture that values quality, accountability, and craftsmanship
Work Environment
  • New residential construction job sites
  • Travel within service area required
  • Occasional after-hours work as needed

If you’re ready to take ownership of the final, critical step in HVAC installation and ensure every system performs flawlessly—apply today and join the MTB Mechanical team.
