As an entry-level professional at an MSP, your daily tasks often include monitoring client systems for alerts, responding to helpdesk tickets, assisting with software installations and updates, and performing routine maintenance checks. You'll likely work directly with clients to troubleshoot basic technical issues, escalate complex problems to senior team members, and document resolutions for future reference. This role is highly collaborative, requiring regular communication with both clients and internal teams to ensure smooth service delivery.

What is an MSP entry level?

MSP entry-level jobs are positions at Managed Service Providers (MSPs) designed for individuals who are new to the IT industry. These roles typically involve tasks such as basic technical support, monitoring systems, troubleshooting user issues, and assisting with routine maintenance. Entry-level MSP employees often work closely with more experienced technicians to learn about network management, cybersecurity, and customer service. These jobs are a great way to gain practical experience and build a foundation for a career in IT.

What skills and qualifications are needed for an MSP entry level?

To thrive as an MSP Entry Level Technician, you need a foundational understanding of IT concepts, basic troubleshooting, and familiarity with networking, typically supported by a relevant certification like CompTIA A+ or Network+. Experience with remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools, ticketing systems, and common operating systems (Windows, macOS) is usually required. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and a customer-focused attitude set candidates apart in this client-facing role. These skills and qualities ensure efficient technical support, positive customer experiences, and smooth IT operations for managed service clients.

Job description

Account Manager

Location: Sacramento, CA
Work Arrangement: Fully In-Office
Compensation: Based on experience, plus variable incentive opportunities

Position Overview

Total Secure Technology is seeking an experienced Account Manager to help grow our Account Management team. We currently have a junior-level team member supporting account management and procurement, and we are looking for someone who can step in at a higher level, take ownership of client relationships, and contribute immediately.

This is not an entry-level position or an opportunity for someone looking to break into the technology industry. Candidates must have direct experience working for a Managed Service Provider and understand the MSP business model, managed service agreements, recurring revenue, client retention, renewals, technology planning, and account growth. Familiarity with the Sacramento business market is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients.
  • Build strong relationships and maintain high client satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular account reviews and strategic planning meetings.
  • Coordinate with technical, service, project, sales, and procurement teams.
  • Support contract renewals, client retention, and recurring revenue growth.
  • Identify appropriate product, project, upselling, and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Track client needs, agreements, concerns, opportunities, and follow-up items.
  • Help improve and grow the company’s Account Management function.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of account management or client success experience within an MSP.
  • Strong understanding of managed services, recurring revenue, renewals, client retention, and technology planning.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple client relationships and priorities.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Experience using CRM, PSA, or other MSP-related platforms.
  • Experience with ConnectWise, IT Glue, Humanize IT, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Current familiarity with or professional connections in the Sacramento market are strongly preferred.

Compensation

Position level and compensation will be based on the candidate’s MSP experience, industry knowledge, account management background, and ability to contribute immediately.

Developing Account Manager — Hourly, Non-Exempt

Hourly rate: $29.00–$33.00 per hour
Approximate annual base: $60,320–$68,640
Estimated total compensation: $65,000–$78,000

This level is for candidates with direct MSP experience who can contribute immediately but are still developing their ability to independently manage a larger or more complex client portfolio.

Experienced Account Manager

Base compensation: $70,304–$80,000 annually
Estimated total compensation: $78,000–$95,000

This level is for candidates with proven MSP account management experience who can independently manage client relationships, lead account reviews, support renewals, identify growth opportunities, and help develop the Account Management function.

Incentive Opportunities

Eligible incentives may include monthly bonuses based on qualifying product and project gross margin, quarterly bonuses tied to client retention and churn reduction, incentives for renewals and recurring revenue growth, and performance multipliers for achieving established targets.

This is a fully in-office position requiring daily on-site collaboration with our Sacramento team.
