Job description

We are seeking a Senior UX Interface Designer with a genuine, discerning visual sensibility who can recognize the difference between a screen that merely functions and one that commands attention, builds trust, and makes an athlete want to keep coming back. This is not a role for someone who executes a design system without aesthetic judgment. We need a designer who has a point of view, can defend it, and can elevate our product visually while remaining disciplined within our design constraints. This role owns the Presentation Layer - how the product is formatted in terms of fonts, graphics, and animation, along with intuitive navigation. Key focus areas include innate visual design sensibility applied to a premium dark-surface consumer product; identity-driven, personalized experiences that adapt to each user's performance profile; high-quality motion and interaction design that communicates performance and progress; and action-oriented workflows that eliminate passive data consumption. This is a startup environment where the ideal candidate thrives building from 0->1, is comfortable with ambiguity, and takes ownership rather than waiting for direction. We move fast, hold a high visual standard, and ship against hard dates. We also leverage modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery; comfort in these environments is a must. Key Tasks & Responsibilities Visual Design Leadership (Defining Responsibility) * Own the overall aesthetic standard of the product: typography application, spatial rhythm, depth hierarchy, color restraint, icon quality, and component polish * Ensure the product reads as a premium consumer tool - not a clinical health app, generic fitness tracker, or scaled-up spreadsheet * Apply visual judgment to commercial surfaces (marketplace, subscription tiers, upsell moments) while maintaining trust in the system * Build and maintain the authoritative Figma (or equivalent) design system: token library (colors, type ramps, spacing, radius, motion), component library, and identity cell documentation Identity-Driven & Personalized Experience Design * Design the identity recoloring moment in onboarding as the signature emotional beat of the product - a real-time ambient palette transition that feels intentional, earned, and beautiful * Ensure the primary dashboard identity symbols function coherently as both the user's visual identity expression and the entry point to the AI coaching layer * Design the shareable identity card in both quiet (clean, restrained) and expressive (gamified, bold numbers) aesthetic modes * Ensure scoring loops, streak mechanics, and progression tier displays feel motivating and identity-consistent - not a generic gamification model Motion Design & Interaction (Critical) * Design and spec all animated moments, including the readiness score arc animation, the pre-launch cinematic welcome experience, identity ambient recolor, mission/achievement completion states, AI coaching insight reveals, and score/pillar change reveals * Define motion standards for the full product: screen transitions, micro-interactions, press states, loading states, skeleton screens, empty states, and error states * Produce implementation-ready motion specs for multiple devices: Bodymovin/Lottie files, timing curves, duration values, and engineering handoff notes UX/UI Design Across the Full Screen Inventory * Design action-oriented experiences that tell the user what to do next; every screen should have a clear direction rather than a passive display of data * Translate complex biomarker, wearable, and AI-generated data into interfaces that are immediately readable and emotionally resonant - not dense, clinical, or overwhelming * Design the dashboard priority engine as the product's daily engagement surface - one that feels like a coach, not a notification list * Design an AI coaching modal as a distinct experience layer, and maintain high-fidelity designs across iOS, Android, and Web simultaneously (design once, build anywhere) Cross-Platform Consistency & Engineering Collaboration Ensure a unified visual and interaction experience across iOS, Android, and Web - respecting platform-specific behaviors without fracturing the design system Education & Experience * 5+ years of experience in UX/UI and product design, with at least 2 years designing for mobile (iOS/Android) at a consumer product company Must Demonstrate * Understanding of color as a functional system communicating status, identity, causality, and trust * Proficiency in Figma or equivalent - component libraries, auto-layout, design tokens, prototyping, and developer handoff * Proficiency in motion/animation tools (Lottie, After Effects, Framer, or equivalent) with demonstrated ability to spec animations for engineering implementation * Comfort with AI-assisted development tools such as Lovable, Cursor, or similar, and willingness to adopt new tooling quickly Preferred Qualifications * Experience designing for health, fitness, performance, or biomarker applications * Experience designing consumer commerce surfaces in a trust-sensitive context, including in-app purchases, subscription tier presentations, or health/telehealth marketplaces * Familiarity with React Native / Expo design constraints: safe areas, platform-specific scroll physics, gesture models, and native component behavior * Light front-end knowledge (TypeScript, React Native, CSS) sufficient to assess implementation fidelity and communicate specific divergence from design intent * Experience designing gamification and progression systems: achievement states, streak mechanics, leaderboard displays, tier progression * Familiarity with identity-adaptive or multi-theme design systems: real-time palette shifts, persona-keyed visual treatments, multi-tier token management * Experience with cinematic or motion-heavy product moments (brand launch surfaces, product reveal animations, celebration states) and demonstrated ability to art-direct sound, motion, and timing together Certifications * Applicable certifications are a plus Other (Travel, Work Environment, DoD 8570 Requirements, Administrative Notes, etc.) * Fast-paced, milestone-driven startup environment with hard ship dates; role leverages AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Lovable, and equivalents) to accelerate design and development velocity * This position is a remote work from home role $130,000 - $160,000 a year The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity. The posted range is appropriate for a typical candidate meeting, at a minimum, all the core requirements of the position.
