Job description

Position Overview

Provides comprehensive medical services to members of the family, regardless of age or sex, on a continuing basis by performing the duties outlined below.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provides medical treatment and advice to patients of all age groups. Obtains medical histories, examines patients, orders, performs, and interprets appropriate laboratory and X-ray examinations, diagnoses medical conditions, and performs or orders necessary treatment.

Examines patients, performs focused physical examinations, and compiles comprehensive medical data, including health history and physical examination findings.

Orders or administers diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, electrocardiograms (ECGs), and laboratory tests, and interprets test results.

Develops and implements patient care plans for identified medical conditions and documents clinical notes accordingly. Provides acute, subacute, and episodic care as needed.

Instructs and counsels patients regarding existing diagnoses, compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, and family planning.

Exercises independent professional judgment in providing medical services to individuals. This may include working evening hours and weekends as required by the schedule.

Makes medical assessments, diagnoses conditions, and initiates treatment plans in accordance with established standards of care, including prescribing medications as permitted under applicable state laws.

Provides emergency treatment, including basic life support, as appropriate and within the scope of practice.

Recognizes mental deviations from normal functioning and initiates arrangements for the treatment of psychiatric and/or behavioral health problems.

Participates in the development and implementation of protocols, policies, and procedures.

Attends scheduled meetings and required organizational activities.

Reviews Morris Heights Health Center email account daily and responds to communications in a timely manner.

Arrives at the assigned work location prepared to begin work at the scheduled start time.

Qualifications

Education & Training

Graduate from an approved physician assistant program.

Certificates,

Licenses, Registration

Must possess a valid New York State medical license/registration.

Must have current Infection Control certification from a New York State-approved provider.

Must maintain a current DEA Certificate.

Must be registered with I-STOP through the New York State Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP).

Must maintain current CPR/BLS certification.

Experience

Two or more years of experience as a practitioner is preferred. Experience with an EMR and its implementation is preferred.

Reasoning & Problem-Solving Abilities

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. The ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas) scientific equation, graphs, musical notes, etc.) In its most difficult phases. Also, the ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Language & Literacy Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Write speeches and articles using original or innovation techniques or style. Make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or broad of directors. Ability to speak additional languages, particularly Spanish preferred.

Mathematical & Analytical Skills 

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents. logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
