It often features a scalloped or notched rim to hold the bases of glasses and may be made of silver or ceramic. The name 'Monteith' can also refer to these antique bowls as collectible items. Monteiths are valued by collectors for their historical significance and craftsmanship. Today, they are mostly found in museums or antique collections.
