Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Monitor Tech, you will be responsible for continuous observation and analysis of patients' cardiac rhythms to detect and report changes.
Every day you will meticulously monitor EKG strips, identify arrhythmias, measure intervals, and promptly communicate critical findings to nursing staff and healthcare providers, ensuring accurate documentation.
To be successful, you will demonstrate sharp observational skills, a thorough understanding of cardiac rhythms, and the ability to act quickly and precisely under pressure, crucial for patient safety and timely intervention.

  • Continuous observation of monitored EKG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered. Sets up, calibrates and Maintains settings and alarms on telemetry module. Obtains rhythm strip at beginning of shift, on admission and whenever changes occur. Labels strip with patient identification, time, lead monitored, PR interval, ST interval, QRS interval
  • Trouble shoots telemetry equipment, Ensures monitors are functioning properly, ensure telemetry supplies are readily available. Accounts for all telemetry transmitters, Verifies daily telemetry charges
  • Identifies changes in rate, rhythm, or pattern, notifying RN of these changes. Responds appropriately to emergency situations, runs a continuous EKG strip and notifies appropriate staff
  • Assists in answering telephone, ensures transmitters are properly cleaned between patients.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and development by completing annual mandatory inservices and Code Validation within given time frame, attends unitbased inservices, attends monthly departmental meetings. Demonstrates flexibility in responding to unit/service needs, i.e., floating to other areas
Job Requirements

Required

  • Graduate from an accredited EKG Technician Program, upon hire and
  • Completed Internship at Baylor St Luke’s Medical Center or
  • One (1) year of experience as a Monitor Tech, EMT, or Paramedic
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 14 - days

St. Luke’s Health - The Woodlands Hospital is a 245 bed facility serving North Harris and Montgomery counties. The hospital has been recognized as a Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, and is proud to serve as the clinical home for the Dan L Duncan Cancer Center. The hospital was awarded an “A” hospital safety grade by The Leapfrog Group in both 2023 and 2025. Clinical services provided include cardiovascular services, diagnostic imaging, women’s services (digital mammography and bone density studies), neurosciences, pediatric care (Newborn and Level III nurseries), surgery, pathology and pulmonary services, and sleep disorder services.
