Surgical Room Position at Sinai

About Facility: Sinai is a Milwaukee, WI Level IV Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, GYN Teaching Facility with 228 beds. The facility has 14 ORs and performs a variety of cases including ortho, GYN, general, bariatrics, plastics, urology, and gynecology. Robotics include DaVinci XI and Stryker Mako Robot.

Case Types: The top three cases are ortho, GYN, and general. Common procedures include general (cholecystectomies, appendectomies), bariatrics (robotic, laparoscopic), ortho (total joints, sports medicine, ACDF, laminectomy, microdiscectomy), plastics (breast reconstruction, total, biopsy), urology (TURPs, cystoscopies), and gynecology (ruptured ectopic, total hysterectomy, D&C, hysteroscopy).

Robotics: Experience with DaVinci XI and Stryker Mako Robot is required.

Required License, National Certification, Certs: RN: BLS required; ACLS and CNOR preferred. Surgical Tech: BLS, Graduate of accredited program required; CST preferred. Surgical Assist: BLS, CSA. Anesthesia Tech: BLS, Graduate of accredited FA program; ASATT preferred.

Skills required: EPIC experience required. RN: Required - Circulate, DaVinci experience, GYN, ortho, General experience. Scrub experience preferred. PACU Backup - recovery experience for the above patients. Surgical Tech: Required โ€“ Scrub, GYN, ortho, General experience. Surgical Assist: Required โ€“ First assist experience with ortho, robotics, retraction, suturing, scrubbing. Anesthesia Tech: Required โ€“ difficult IV access, experienced with L&D, IR, and GI.

Support on the Unit: Charge RN, Shift 1: No patient assignment. Shift 2: Occasional assignment at the end of the day. Leadership Leads: take patient assignments.

Technology/Equipment: EMR: EPIC (required). IV pumps: Alaris. Medication dispensing: Pyxis. Other equipment: iStat (Hemochron), C-arm is client (staff not responsible for running machine, only setup).

Floating: If yes, where? For RN, if low censused, could float to the inpatient units to do tasks or act as sitter. Will not take patient assignment. Optional: Float to St. Luke's South Shore, Graft, or West Allis.

Orientation: 3-5 days of orientation (8 hrs) 1st Day โ€“ Meet with NM, Educator (CBLs, badge, login access, etc.). Remainder of shift with preceptor on unit. 2nd โ€“ 5th days โ€“ orientation on unit with preceptor.

Scheduling: RN: Weekend rotation: based on needs. Monday โ€“ Friday 0630-1500. Will not flex before 0600. Based on surgical schedule. Call: Based on unit needs. End of shift โ€“ 0630 Surgical Tech: Weekend rotation: On call Monday โ€“ Friday 0630-1500. Will not flex before 0600. Based on surgical schedule. Call: Monday โ€“ Friday based on unit needs.
