Job description

Moffitt Cancer Center is a nationally recognized, NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center committed to the prevention and cure of cancer. The Population Science Division and the Physical and Quantitative Science (PQS) Division at Moffitt Cancer Center advance cancer research through complementary, dataa'driven, and interdisciplinary approaches. Together, these divisions support research spanning cancer epidemiology, prevention, behavioral science, biostatistics, computational modeling, quantitative imaging, and applied physical sciences.

Faculty and staff across Population Science and PQS collaborate with clinical, translational, and basic science partners to design innovative studies, develop analytical and computational tools, and translate complex data into actionable insights. Their work strengthens Moffitt’s research portfolio, supports largea'scale and team science initiatives, and advances discoveries that improve cancer outcomes and population health.

Director, Division Operations Population Science and Physical and Quantitative Science Divisions

Position Summary:

The Director of Division Operations is responsible for the oversight, management, and continuous improvement of divisional grant and department operations within the Population Science and Physical and Quantitative Science Divisions. This role partners closely with senior leadership, faculty, and institutional stakeholders to ensure the infrastructure, resources, and strategic initiatives needed to support high-quality, growing research programs are in place and operating effectively. The Director provides leadership across grant operations, fiscal oversight, strategic planning, and staff development, while also supporting faculty efforts and external partnerships.

Position Highlights:
  • Leadership role supporting divisional research operations within Moffitt Cancer Center
  • Oversees grant development, strategic planning, fiscal management, and team leadership
  • Acts as a key partner to senior leadership, division chiefs, department chairs, and faculty
  • Manages operational infrastructure supporting approximately 60 research faculty and 25 administrative staff
Ideal Candidate:
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Experience with financial accountability for an academic or research division
  • In-depth knowledge of research division operations, including grant development and management
  • Experience working within an NCI-designated cancer center or similar large academic research institution
  • Membership or involvement in SRA, NCURA, or similar professional organizations
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall leadership and oversight for divisional grant and department operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and best practices
  • Develop, implement, and monitor divisional standards, metrics, and operational processes
  • Partner with senior leadership and faculty to support short- and long-term strategic planning initiatives aligned with institutional goals
  • Oversee fiscal management including budgets, operating expenses, and financial performance across multiple cost centers
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, internal partners, external collaborators, and donors
  • Provide direct leadership to managers and supervisors, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and succession planning
Credentials & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical/scientific, business administration, or a related field is required
  • Eight (8) years of grant and/or programmatic strategic planning experience in an academic or research setting with at least five (5) years of supervisory and/or leadership experience is required
