Make a meaningful impact by supporting students' independence and mobility within a welcoming school environment as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This highly valued contract role places you in a vibrant education setting, empowering students with visual impairments to achieve greater confidence and autonomy.
Bring your expertise as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to collaborate with educators, families, and multidisciplinary professionals who share your commitment to fostering student success. Your ability to assess, plan, and implement individualized mobility training will help students safely navigate their campus and beyond.
Key Requirements:

  • Completion of a recognized Orientation and Mobility Specialist program
  • Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Prior experience working with school-aged individuals or within a K-12 environment preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop and adapt instructional plans for students with a range of visual impairments
  • Organizational skills and flexibility in a dynamic school setting
Core Responsibilities:
  • Conduct individualized assessments to determine each student's mobility needs
  • Design and implement custom orientation and mobility training plans
  • Instruct students in the use of adaptive devices, environmental cues, and safe travel skills both indoors and outdoors
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to maintain consistent goals and strategies
