Job description

Job Title: Fitter Class 1
Location: Mobile, AL
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay Range: $30.93/hr
Overview
We are seeking a Fitter Class 1 to join our growing team at a shipyard in Mobile, Alabama. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your knowledge and skills to a dynamic team working on a new Coast Guard vessel.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the ship/boat building industry as a structural fitter
  • Must be able to read blueprints
  • Minimal welding experience—must be able to tack weld
  • Proficient in layout and cutting of steel and aluminum using necessary tools
  • Must possess the basic tools required to perform shipfitter duties
  • Strong math skills with the ability to read a tape measure and other measuring devices
  • Ability to maintain dimensional accuracy and fairness of materials to be fitted
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and comply with all safety standards
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic
  • Must be able to recognize fit-up issues and relay them to a supervisor
  • Experience operating power tools (grinders, saws, drills, etc.)
  • Consistently produces high-quality work with minimal to no discrepancies
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat, or kneel regularly, as well as climb stairs and ladders and enter confined spaces to complete tasks
