Job description

Gulf Electroquip is located in Houston, Texas, USA. We specialize in new, remanufactured and repaired AC and DC motors and generators for the oil & gas, dredging, paper, petrochemical, mining, utilities and transportation industries. Our power equipment can be engineered and manufactured to meet the specific needs of our clients. All our engineering is performed at our facility making sure that exact specifications are met.

The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for purchasing materials, equipment, and supplies required for production and operations. This position works closely with suppliers, production, sales, and accounting to ensure materials are ordered, delivered, and received accurately and on time while maintaining cost control and supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate Purchase Orders for production materials and supplies
  • Maintain purchase order records, including notes to record conversations, status, and updates
  • Locate vendors of materials, equipment, or supplies and evaluate suppliers for price, quality, and delivery
  • Negotiate supplier terms including price, quality, payment terms, and freight terms
  • Generate and manage Requests for Quote (RFQ) process
  • Manage supplier base, pre-qualify and evaluate new supplier sources
  • Maintain supplier contact information
  • Review manufacturing and sales material requirements and generate purchase orders accordingly
  • Monitor inventory levels and work with production and sales to maintain appropriate stock levels
  • Review and resolve discrepancies between purchase orders and supplier invoices
  • Work with Accounting to resolve purchasing, invoice, or supplier discrepancies
  • Maintain purchase delivery/receipt schedules by direct communication with suppliers
  • Maintain open purchase orders including documenting supplier communications and schedule updates
  • Process returns to suppliers

All other duties as assigned

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain Management industry best practices is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods. May occasionally need to lift boxes or materials

Preferred Education/Experience

  • 2+ years' experience in a manufacturing or supply chain environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems (VISUAL Enterprise is a plus)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
