Description
Under general supervision, plans and performs complex Mining Engineering duties related to development and production at assigned site.
 
  • Develop mine plans based on all available geological and geotechnical information to support long-range and short-range planning and production goals
  • Provides guidance and counsel to the site Management and subordinates on equipment selection, capital and operating costs, manpower, safety practices, and either existing or proposed technical aspects of mine operation
  • In collaboration with Management and subordinates prepare manpower, capital and equipment requirements to meet budgeting and forecast objectives
  • Prepare and optimize Life-of-Mine (LOM) phase designs, sequencing and ore reserves to minimize strip ratio and maximize NPV
  • Develop and manage mine waste stockpile designs within Corporate and regulatory guidelines
  • Proficient use of Mine Engineering software packages to help perform and interpret results in an efficient and timely manner
  • Mentors and trains new Engineers on how to perform Mine Engineering tasks using complex computer software
  • Recommend courses of action specifically to improve safety, operational efficiency, overall production cost and protect the environment
  • Develop and evaluate AFE’s (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requests
  • Supports open pit planning activities, including the development of alternative mining plans, to maximize the value of the operations
  • Evaluates and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
  • Serves as Project Manager or technical expert, on large/complex site construction, expansion or modification projects
  • May represent the site on company sponsored steering teams
  • Performs other duties as required
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining or Geological Engineering and five (5) years of related experience in Engineering or related field, OR
  • Master's degree in Mining or Geological Engineering and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering or related field
  • Hands-on experience within the last five (5) years using the principles and practices of Mine Engineering with at least two (2) typical mine functions (long or short-range planning, ore control, dispatch, Geomechanical control, project management or supervision)
  • Knowledge of the principles, standards and practices of Mine Engineering
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw timely and valid conclusions
  • Skilled in managing large/complex Engineering projects
  • Able to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Preferred
  • Advanced degree or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification
Criteria/Conditions
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work may be located at a mine site or work location on a permanent assignment, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

What We Offer You  

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $97,500-$138,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
