Job Description
The Yardmaster is responsible for coordinating daily rail switching and loading operations to ensure all railcars reach their destination safely and on schedule. This role works closely with operations personnel, customers, and site leadership to manage railcar movement, loading coordination, reporting, and operational communication throughout the shift.

This position combines operational oversight with administrative coordination in a fast-paced industrial environment. Responsibilities include maintaining train logs, tracking railcar status, coordinating loading activity, handling documentation, and communicating movement instructions through radio and reporting systems.

The ideal candidate is organized, safety-focused, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while working both indoors and outdoors in an active rail yard environment. Previous experience in logistics, industrial operations, rail, or transportation environments is preferred.

Schedule
4 days on / 4 days off rotating day-to-night schedule
12-hour shifts

Compensation
$28.00 - $30.00 per hour based on experience

Duties
Coordinate daily rail switching and loading operations
Place and pull railcars according to switching schedules
Maintain train logs and operational tracking data
Assign and record railcar seals and loading information
Monitor and track bad-order railcars
Prepare and distribute reports, load data, and operational paperwork
Communicate railcar movement and loading instructions via radio
Coordinate documentation including track lists, inspections, load reports, and bills of lading
Support customer communication and operational coordination
Perform general administrative and reporting duties
Occasionally inspect railcars and equipment outdoors in the rail yard
Maintain compliance with all company and customer safety procedures
Support additional operational duties as assigned

Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED required
1-2 years of administrative, logistics, industrial, or transportation experience preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced operational environment
Strong teamwork and organizational skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
Experience with Terminal Boss and/or Yardmaster software preferred
Ability to work rotating day/night schedules
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to walk on uneven terrain and within active rail yard environments
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Reliable transportation required
Military experience is a plus
