About the Role
The Project Design Manager is responsible and accountable for project designs throughout the project life cycle including developing solutions that result in drawings for customers and internal partners. This position is also accountable for the output of CAD Product Designers and outsource partners ensuring compliance with specifications, quality standards, safety and aesthetics for each assigned job.
Responsibilities:
Manage, develop and modify millwork architectural shop, CNC machine, production, and installation drawings using various software.
Partner with project manager to ensure successful project execution.
Collaborate around design concepts and requirements with customers and internal partners.
Recommend design and material alternatives to achieve client specifications, quality standards, production limitations, functionality, and value engineering requirements.
Develop and modify accurate cut-list(s), CNC drawings, product drawings, material list, product list, and work orders based on project specifications.
Provide training for new engineering team members and support compliance with standards and standard works.
Review, approve and monitor team member's output for compliance with specifications, quality standards, safety and aesthetics for each assigned job.
Assist in the coordination of engineering team members and subcontractors for assigned jobs.
Participate in continuous improvement activities that improve engineering and company processes.
Perform project design management duties for multiple projects, simultaneously.
Complete complex designing and drafting assignments.
Maintain job engineering files for drawings per established company and engineering standards.
Occasionally travel to job sites for field verification, project meetings as needed.
Complete other projects as assigned.
Essential Functions:
This position requires the ability to use hands to operate office equipment, such as a computer and a telephone. This position requires ability to think creatively, see, hear and read, write, and speak English. The position also requires ability to stand, sit, stoop, climb stairs and move from location to location. Additionally, this position requires the ability to travel to construction sites which will have various temperatures, uneven surfaces, dusty conditions. This position may be required to sit at a computer terminal for long periods. This position requires the ability to lift and/or move items up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Required Knowledge and skills:
3 years or more of previous experience working with Architectural Casework and Millwork.
Proficiency in the ability to read, interpret architectural plans and specifications.
Strong understanding of layout, shop drawing and construction drawing principles for customized commercial millwork and/or casework.
Proficiency using AutoCAD software and a strong understanding of drafting and engineering principles, standards, and terminology.
Excellent personal computer skills in a network environment including Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong understanding of wood working materials, manufacturing methods, and installation methods.
Ability to interact tactfully and effectively with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone and in writing.
Excellent organization skills and ability to work effectively, despite numerous interruptions and changing priorities.
Strong research, problem solving, decision-making skills, combined with attention to detail and accuracy.
Skill and accuracy with mathematical concepts and calculations.
Ability to work under deadlines and excel under pressure are required.
Shows initiative and demonstrates a self-starter attitude.
Desired Knowledge and skills:
Experience with Cut-Rite, WoodWOP, WoodCAD/CAM, CabinetVision, Mircovellum, Inventor, or similar.
Experience with Bluebeam software, ShopPak or another ERP software.
Understanding of AWI Standards.
