The Postal Clerk Assistant operation is a critical component to the mission success of the Marshall Islands. This position is assigned to the Finance Section of the APO and is responsible for providing support to customers receiving mail, sorting mail, proper packaging and labeling of mail/parcels, and inspection and bagging operations.


Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Postal clerk assistant interfaces directly with the customer to assist them with the mailing their items, issuing their incoming mail.
  • Conduct parcel inspections to include removal of non-mailable items, re-packing, taping and sealing, and labeling items for mailing.
  • Receipt, scan, and dispatch accountable mail and ensure the distributed mail is signed for by the customers.
  • Distribute mail to mail clerks for assigned units during unit mail call.
  • Perform directory services to include forwarding insufficiently addressed, change of address, and return to sender mail, and utilize the Consolidated Air Massing and Labeling Scheme (CAMALS).
  • Help ensure the protection of mail and mail facility are secured at all times.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
    • Completed formal military postal training or on-the-job postal training preferred.
    • Must possess a current drivers license and obtain on post drivers license.
  • Experience:
    • 1 to 2 years of military postal (APO) and/or mail room experience.
  • Skills:
    • Can operate or capable of learning to utilize an RSS.
    • Can operate or capable of learning to utilize Product Tracking and Scanning (PTS).
    • Can operate or capable of learning to navigate in the Automated Military Postal System (AMPS) program.
    • Can operate or capable of learning to utilize Nesting and Receptacle Dispatch.
    • Must have excellent customer service and listening skills.
    • Must have the capability to articulate the English language in a professional manner
  • Working Environment:
    • Environmental Factors: Must be capable of working in various weather conditions (humidity, rain, warm).
