Mid Level PHP Developers are software professionals who have a few years of experience working with PHP, a popular server-side scripting language used primarily for web development. They are typically responsible for writing, testing, and maintaining code, as well as collaborating with teams to develop dynamic websites and web applications. Mid level developers are expected to have a solid understanding of PHP frameworks, databases, and web technologies, and can work independently on moderately complex tasks while also mentoring junior team members. Their role bridges the gap between junior and senior developers, allowing them to take on more responsibility and contribute to project planning and architecture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid Level PHP Developer, and why are they important?

A Mid Level PHP Developer should have a solid understanding of PHP programming, web development fundamentals, and experience with frameworks like Laravel or Symfony, typically supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with databases (such as MySQL), version control systems (like Git), and tools for debugging and testing is highly valued, along with knowledge of RESTful APIs. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating within development teams and delivering robust solutions. These abilities ensure the developer can efficiently build scalable applications, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to successful project outcomes.

What are some common challenges Mid Level PHP Developers face when working on legacy codebases?

Mid Level PHP Developers often encounter challenges when working with legacy code, such as outdated frameworks, inconsistent coding standards, and limited documentation. These issues can make it difficult to implement new features or fix bugs efficiently, requiring developers to spend extra time understanding existing logic. Collaboration with senior developers and open communication with the team are critical to navigating these challenges and promoting gradual codebase improvements. Additionally, it's important to balance the need for refactoring with ongoing project deadlines.

Job Description C2's client, a well-established point-of-purchase marketing and strategy partner that brings together design, engineering, print, technology, and fulfillment under one roof, seeks a Mid-Level Graphic Designer to join a growing creative team. Here, designers work alongside engineering, print, and fulfillment teams to develop retail campaigns from concept through production, seeing their work come to life in the displays, signage, and merchandising systems that influence shoppers on their path to purchase. Most of the work focuses on "below-the-line" marketing: the point-of-purchase (POP) displays, retail signage, and merchandising systems that surround the product on the sales floor.

The hiring manager is actively investing in the creative team and is looking for a designer who wants to take ownership, contribute ideas, and grow alongside the business. Working closely with the Creative Director and broader design team, this role balances conceptual thinking with thoughtful execution while supporting established client programs and new business initiatives.

Responsibilities Design and produce point-of-purchase displays, retail signage, merchandising systems, and related in-store marketing materials Take ownership of projects from concept through final production with minimal oversight Partner with the Creative Director and broader creative team to support a growing portfolio of retail brands Develop creative solutions that balance strong design thinking with production realities Apply generative AI tools where appropriate to accelerate concept development and creative workflows Prepare production-ready files and collaborate with internal print and production teams to ensure quality execution Requirements A strong portfolio demonstrating mid-level graphic design experience, with point-of-purchase or retail merchandising experience preferred Strong proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop) Working familiarity with generative AI design tools and AI-assisted creative workflows Working knowledge of print production and how design translates to fabrication, including lithographic or large-format digital printing Ability to manage projects independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams Self-driven, collaborative, and low ego, with genuine pride in the craft of design Not your type of gig, but know someone who would be interested. Refer a qualified candidate, and if they get the job, you get a signing bonus. (Make sure they mention your name as their referral source so you get your well-deserved credit!)
