Machinist (Entry/Mid-Level)



Job Summary:

Specter Aerospace is seeking anEntry/Mid-level machinist to produce components for hypersonic flight vehicles and ground testing. They will machine a high-mix, low-volume of parts in a prototyping environment. The individual will have the opportunity to work on a flexible schedule

Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles for defense and commercialapplications. Specter is headquartered in Peabody, MA, just north of Boston, where it leverages itsadvanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly developsupersonic and hypersonic systems. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations, commercialcustomers, and private funding, Specter is a growing aerospace and defense startup. Closerelationships with MIT, Notre Dame, AFRL, NRL, ANL, and other research organizations provide accessto cutting-edge developments, facilities, and personnel. Specter is expanding its team in
preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Program, set up, and operate various CNCmachines (Haas Experiencepreferred)
  • as well as experience with manual milling/turning
  • Inspect finished components to ensure they meet tolerance requirements
  • Work with engineering teams to advise on design for manufacture
  • Select appropriate fixtures and tooling for parts
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and workplace housekeeping
  • Work with both safety and efficiency in mind


Job Requirements:

  • High School or Vocational School Diploma or equivalent job experience
  • 1+ years of experience working with both manual and CNC mills and lathes
  • Understanding of calculations for feeds, speeds, and tool selection
  • Comfort with project autonomy and fast-paced, quick-turn work environments
  • Proficiency in CAM software and working from engineering drawings
  • Ability to obtain a SECRET level security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)


Desired Skills:

  • Experience withCAD/CAM software (Solidworks/HSMWorksCAM/Featurecampreferred)
  • Familiarity with Haas controlspreferred
  • Experience with precision measuring equipment
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
