To thrive as a Mid Level Developer, you need solid programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, along with a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and frameworks such as React or Spring Boot is typically required. Job description

The role - what you'll do
Barr is seeking a mid-level air permitting and compliance consultant to undertake challenging work coordinating air compliance and permitting projects associated with the development, construction, and operation in the mining industry. This role requires a deep understanding of air quality regulations. An ideal candidate will also have a proven track record in consulting, providing expert advice, and delivering solutions to clients.
A successful person in this role is intrinsically motivated and emphasizes client service. They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their technical ability for a variety of projects. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and client needs. This person is also relationship-focused, as the role involves serving both internal and external clients.
Your impact - key responsibilities
  • Air permitting and compliance: reading and interpreting regulations, calculating emissions, writing regulatory and technical analysis memos, preparing routine compliance submittals, developing compliance tools to assist clients, and compiling permit applications.
  • Client service: collaborating with internal teams to develop creative solutions for our clients' problems.
  • Project management: supporting and leading various project tasks to best ensure the timely completion of project deliverables.

About the opportunity

This position is based out of Barr's Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, or Colorado offices.
  • Travel expectation: up to 25% of the time; may vary depending on client needs.
  • Work environment: projects may require time on site at industrial and mining facilities. Some locations include rough terrain, limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of construction or industrial sites. Work may involve waste disposal sites or locations requiring hazardous materials cleanup. As needed, safety training will be provided, and an OSHA-mandated physical exam (HAZWOPER) or MSHA training may be required. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

About you - required core competencies
  • Education: bachelor's degree in mining, civil, chemical, or environmental engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience:
    • 5 or more years of experience working with federal air regulations such as federal PSD/NSR and Title V, NSPS, MACT, NESHAP, and state air construction permitting.
    • 3 or more years of that experience must have been supporting the mining industry.
    • Recent environmental consulting experience.
  • Relevant skills:
    • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness, as well as a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, regulators, and project teams.
    • Track record of meeting deadlines, fulfilling commitments, and mentoring staff.
  • Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Helpful additional experience (not required):
  • 8 or more years of experience working with federal air regulations such as federal PSD/NSR and Title V, NSPS, MACT, NESHAP, and state air construction permitting.
  • 5 or more years of experience must be supporting the mining industry.
  • 5 or more years of environmental consulting experience.
  • Established relationships with mining clients and strong industry knowledge.
  • Participation in mining-related trade organizations such as NMA, SME, and AEMA.
  • Familiarity with regulatory agencies and officials in western U.S. jurisdictions such as Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona.
