Job description

Job Title: Mid-Level SQL Database Administrator (DBA)
Clearance Required: USDA Public Trust
Work Location: Hybrid
Alpha Omega is seeking a qualified Mid-Level SQL Database Administrator (DBA) who is going to be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, performance, security, and availability of SQL database environments. This role supports business-critical applications by ensuring databases operate efficiently, securely, and reliably while assisting with database design, troubleshooting, and optimization efforts
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server database environments.
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to optimize efficiency.
  • Perform database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Manage database security, including user access, permissions, and compliance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot database issues, outages, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Implement and maintain high availability and replication solutions.
  • Develop and maintain database maintenance plans, jobs, and monitoring processes.
  • Collaborate with developers and application teams to optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database structures.
  • Support database upgrades, migrations, and patch management activities.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Monitor storage capacity and plan for future database growth.
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and availability across database systems.

Required Qualifications:
Required Experience/Skills:
  • 3 to 5 years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture, T-SQL, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Experience with backup and recovery strategies, database maintenance, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) technologies such as Always On Availability Groups, clustering, or replication.
  • Experience with database monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Understanding of database security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Microsoft SQL Server certifications.
  • Experience with cloud database platforms such as Microsoft Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD processes.
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise database environments.

(Required or Preferred) Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. (Preferred)

Salary and Benefit Information:
The likely salary range for this position is $128k - $134k. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
