About the role:
As a Business Development professional, you'll help drive growth in our Slate studio by identifying new business, building lasting relationships, and expanding our presence across the commercial interiors market. This high-visibility role gives you real ownership over generating qualified leads, shaping growth strategies, and uncovering opportunities that directly influence Slate's trajectory in the market. What you'll do:
  • Cultivate relationships with architects, designers, owner's representatives, and other key influencers through strategic outreach, firm visits, networking, lunch and learns, and industry events.
  • Develop and maintain relationship maps for target firms, identifying key decision makers, influencers, and opportunities to strengthen Slate's presence over time.
  • Research prospective clients, firms, and emerging projects to identify potential projects early in the sales cycle and support strategic market growth.
  • Represent Slate at industry associations and community events, expanding our network while keeping our brand top of mind within the commercial design community.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, manufacturer partners, and teams across Elements to coordinate outreach strategies and support business development efforts.
  • Qualify new business opportunities, maintain an organized pipeline, and track relationship activity using NetSuite, LinkedIn, Microsoft Office Suite, and AI-powered tools.
  • Deliver engaging presentations, lunch and learns, and client meetings that showcase Slate's capabilities and create meaningful connections with prospective partners.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, competitive activity, and emerging market developments while sharing insights that strengthen sales strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to expand relationships within existing firms while developing new target accounts that support Slate's long-term growth.

Requirements
Who you are:
  • 5+ years of business development, sales, or related B2B experience and a demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
  • Proven ability to generate new business from the ground up and advance them through the front end of the sales cycle.
  • Experience selling complex products or services using a consultative approach that uncovers client needs and delivers tailored solutions.
  • An engaging communicator who excels at networking, presenting ideas, and building trusted relationships.
  • Resilient and persistent, remaining motivated through long sales cycles while confidently navigating obstacles and earning trust over time.
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in cross-functional environments and enjoys partnering with others to achieve shared goals.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen, able to recognize promising opportunities, prioritize effectively, and make informed business decisions.
  • Proficiency using CRM platforms and AI-enabled sales tools to manage opportunities, maintain accurate data, and support an organized sales process.
  • Commercial furniture, construction, architecture, design, or related industry experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is preferred; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.

Work Environment:
This full-time role is based in our Denver office and is primarily in person to support collaboration, relationship building, and client engagement. Team members are typically in the office four days per week, with flexibility based on business needs and customer commitments. Regular local travel throughout Colorado is expected for client meetings and project support, along with occasional domestic travel for manufacturer events, customer meetings, and industry conferences.
Compensation:
On Target Earnings (OTE): $100,000-$160,000 annually
Compensation includes a competitive base salary plus incentive opportunity and will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.
