We are seeking anย experienced Radio Engineer (P25 Radio Programming)ย to join our team. This role will involve developing, maintaining, and supporting radio programming templates for the Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS), ensuring reliable and secure communications for public safety agencies across the State of Michigan. The ideal candidate will have experience inย P25 radio programming, Motorola and Kenwood radio systems, public safety communications, encryption management, and radio asset management, along with a passion for supporting mission-critical communication systems.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilledย Radio Engineerย to support the Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS). This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, testing, and distributing radio programming templates for statewide public safety radios. The selected candidate will work independently to ensure accurate programming, encryption management, equipment tracking, and technical support while maintaining compliance with MPSCS standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute programming templates for MPSCS radios.
  • Identify and request Radio IDs, Talkgroup IDs, and encryption keys required for radio programming.
  • Build, validate, test, and perform quality assurance on radio programming templates.
  • Coordinate deployment, installation, and reprogramming of radios across field units.
  • Program Motorola and Kenwood P25 radios using approved templates and encryption.
  • Maintain radio equipment records using Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Update radio inventory databases and ensure data accuracy.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to field technicians.
  • Evaluate and test new radio hardware and programming software.
  • Investigate radio communication issues and support statewide MPSCS operations.
  • Respond to technical inquiries and maintain programming documentation.
  • Prepare reports, activity logs, emails, and other administrative documentation.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimumย 3 yearsย of experience as a Radio or Communications Technician.
  • Minimumย 2 yearsย of experience programmingย P25 radios.
  • Hands-on experience programmingย Motorolaย andย Kenwoodย radios.
  • Experience working withย Radio IDs,ย Talkgroups, and programming templates.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Military communications experience.
  • Public Safety Radio Communications experience.
  • Experience with two-way radio programming and maintenance.
