Job description


Position Summary
As a Senior Product Engineer for Vertiv's Single-Phase UPS Systems, you will provide technical leadership and functional expertise to support the development, enhancement, and lifecycle management of our global UPS product line (typically 500VA-25kVA+). You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet design and market requirements, drive value engineering initiatives, and support field applications and service teams. This role is ideal for engineers passionate about power electronics, reliability, and customer-focused innovation.
This role requires candidates to be onsite at Delaware OH location.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support product development programs and early sustaining activities for 1-phase UPS systems.
  • Deeply understands the customer, driving ideas and improvements for new and existing products back to R&D.
  • Transfer lessons learned from field applications to other product engineers and R&D teams.
  • Work with the Lead Test Engineers to develop and execute engineering test cases; interpret and report results.
  • Occasionally interact with customers directly, either in support of quoting/sales or in response to problems.
  • Invent, prototype, test and implement design changes to prevent recurrence of a problem, pursue cost-out opportunities or add value to a product.
  • Work with our component engineers to assist in evaluating alternative components and solutions for product improvement or component obsolescence.
  • Provide technical support for special field applications and service issues.
  • Coordinate change order processes and produce required technical documentation (drawings, specifications, etc.).
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, service, and testing teams to define product specifications and test plans.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and foster a customer-first mindset.
  • Occasionally operate test equipment up to 208/240VAC and 60kW in support of the activities above.
  • Occasionally design, build, and modify simple test equipment.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or related field).
  • 5-8 years' experience in any of the following areas is desirable:
    • MDF/IDF operations
    • Commercial or industrial power infrastructure
    • Uninterruptible power supplies
    • Firmware development
    • Sensor & microprocessor integration
    • Remote condition monitoring
    • Li-ion battery management
    • Power Conversion
    • Low Voltage Electrical Distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power components and assemblies.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) processes.
  • Excellent planning, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach.
  • Customer-focused and willing to travel as needed.
  • Proficient in English (written and verbal).
  • Experience with technical documentation and engineering test procedures.
  • Familiarity with value engineering and cost analysis.
  • Knowledge of NEC or NFPA 855 is desirable but not required.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design 2-dimensional CAD is a plus.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with modular UPS systems, lithium-ion battery integration, or renewable energy solutions.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled monitoring, predictive maintenance, or smart grid technologies.
  • Understanding of global compliance standards (UL, IEC, etc.).
  • Advanced troubleshooting and field support experience.

Physical & Environmental Demands
  • Participation in R&D and engineering lab environments.
  • Occasional travel (10-20%) for field support, testing, and customer engagement, and international travel for NPDI product reviews.
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects up to 50-60lbs to a height of 36-42 inches.
