Requirements
Position Summary:
Joining the WIN team as a Network Field Technician I is an integral role within the Network Operations Department, and as such, all ideas, input and constructive recommendations will be highly valued. This position will provide support for all telecommunication networks providing carrier, IPTV, broadband and Internet Service Provider (ISP) services. As a primary field support resource, this position is responsible for all installation, provisioning, commissioning and support of all network elements in the quad-state area (WI, MN, IL, MI). The Network Field Technician I will work closely with other Senior Field Technician's and the WIN Engineering and Provisioning teams to deliver customer solutions in a timely and professional fashion.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all installation, provisioning, commissioning and support of all network elements in the WIN Network, per specific geographic areas as assigned
  • Work closely with the WIN Engineering and Provisioning teams to deliver customer solutions in a timely and professional fashion
  • On Call rotation typically every other week
  • Perform any additional job-related duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and provide our members with industry leading customer service

Technical Skills:
  • Familiar with using a Volt Ohm Meter
  • Familiar with using an OTDR
  • Familiar with using a Light Meter
  • Familiar with using an Ethernet test set
  • Familiar with installing equipment in a Central Office environment

Qualifications:
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work without direct supervision, able to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Must be willing to learn and take direction from senior Field Techs
  • Willingness to ask questions to get clarification
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to easily describe highly technical and complex situations effectively over the phone
  • Knowledge of specialized transport networks SONET, Carrier Ethernet and DWDM
  • General knowledge of LAN/WAN routing and switching
  • Understanding of concepts regarding Fiber Optic transmission
  • Competent computer skills and knowledge of reading technical documentation with the ability to update records
  • Basic knowledge of DC power and an understanding of -48 vdc power systems as it relates to telecom equipment
  • Clean driving record and ability to maintain company vehicle
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 50 lbs and regularly work in remote huts or cabinets
  • Must be able to work on uneven terrain and be able to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Ability to occasionally travel to WIN network locations outside of assigned area to help manage workload demands

  • Work closely with all Member Telco's, Carrier partners, and consultants
  • Work with vendors and suppliers
  • Report to Operations Manager

Work Conditions/Equipment:
Most work performed indoors. Physical activity consists of normal office work and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Utilization of basic office machines and computer equipment. Regular local and regional travel is anticipated to complete job tasks and assignments. Infrequent overnight travel may be necessary to meet business demands.
