Job description

The part-time Metrology Technician under the general supervision of qualified Metrology personnel is responsible for providing testing and technical support in the Metrology laboratory. Their work requires use of scientific methods, procedures, and techniques gained through training and/or previous experience in accordance with GLP and SOP standards.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Perform calibration and/or maintenance of pipettes and other laboratory equipment
  • Use temperature monitoring software to ensure all storage equipment is maintaining the appropriate temperature conditions
  • Assist in the qualification and maintenance of chromatographic instruments
  • Assist in the maintenance of reference standards
  • Maintain parts and supplies for equipment and instrumentation
  • Record data promptly and legibly using the appropriate forms and laboratory notebooks
  • Maintains documentation in compliance with USFDA, OECD, and MHLW Good Laboratory Practices regulations
  • Update and maintain all internal equipment databases
  • Assistance with special projects as assigned by Metrology management

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Other duties as needed

Minimum Preferred Qualifications - Education/Experience
  • Associate degree; or equivalent experience in a scientific environment

Minimum Preferred Qualifications - Skills:
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment where multiple projects are in process and must be completed in a timely manner
  • Ability to take direction well and multi-task
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Completion of college science courses in chemistry, biology, and/or related sciences
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels
  • Acute attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to name and identify the majority of the common lab glassware and equipment; familiarity with common lab chemicals, naming, concentrations, symbols, and properties.

Working Environment:
  • Primarily laboratory environment
  • Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms
  • Rare exposure to skin and lung irritants, toxic materials, and hazardous waste
  • Personal protective equipment required, such as protective eyewear, garments, and gloves
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work in an upright and/or stationary position for up to eight (8) hours per day
  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists to operate lab equipment
  • Frequent mobility needed
  • Frequent crouching, stooping, with frequent bending and twisting of upper body and neck
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including laboratory equipment, laboratory supplies, and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 20 pounds
  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand, with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Frequently interacts with others to obtain or relate information to diverse groups
  • Requires multiple periods of intense concentration
  • Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a part-time position at 24 hours per week
  • Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the "core" work hours as published in the BioAgilytix Employee Handbook
  • Occasional weekend, holiday, and evening work required
