Position Overview

A top national homebuilder is seeking an Area Construction Manager to oversee construction operations across multiple divisions and communities. This highly visible leadership role will support regional construction teams by driving operational excellence, improving field performance, and ensuring consistent quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

The Area Construction Manager will travel extensively between divisions, partnering with Division Presidents, Directors of Construction, and Field Managers to optimize operations, mentor construction leaders, and deliver exceptional results. This individual will oversee operations responsible for 200+ annual home closings while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to company quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and operational oversight for multiple residential construction divisions and communities.
  • Support construction teams responsible for 200+ annual home closings, ensuring production goals and customer commitments are achieved.
  • Travel regularly to division offices and job sites to evaluate field operations, identify improvement opportunities, and provide hands-on leadership.
  • Partner with Division Leadership to improve construction schedules, cycle times, quality, and overall operational performance.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop Construction Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership teams.
  • Monitor build schedules and production metrics to ensure homes are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality standards, OSHA regulations, and safety programs.
  • Conduct regular jobsite inspections and operational reviews to maintain consistency across all divisions.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Land Development, Sales, Customer Care, and Warranty teams to improve communication and project execution.
  • Identify operational challenges and implement best practices to improve efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with onboarding new construction leaders and supporting divisions during periods of rapid growth.
  • Prepare operational reports and present construction performance updates to executive leadership.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of residential construction experience with a production homebuilder.
  • Previous leadership experience managing multiple communities, divisions, or regional construction operations.
  • Proven success overseeing high-volume residential construction, preferably 200+ annual home closings.
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, scheduling, quality control, budgeting, and safety standards.
  • Experience mentoring and developing construction leaders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively (50–75%) across multiple markets as business needs require.


Preferred Experience

  • Experience as a Director of Construction, Area Construction Manager, Regional Construction Manager, or similar leadership role.
  • High-volume production homebuilding experience.
  • Multi-community or multi-division operational oversight.
  • Experience implementing process improvements and operational best practices.
  • Proficiency with residential construction management software and production reporting tools.
