Job description

MPU is working on a strategic initiative to install water meter encoder receiver transmitters (ERT) in homes and businesses throughout our water service territory. Instead of a customerโ€™s water meter communicating its reading to a touchpad on the outside of the home or business requiring a meter reader to walk to every location, ERTs transmit the customerโ€™s water meter reading to a reading device as our meter readers drive by the location. This technology will allow MPU to read our customersโ€™ water meter every month alleviating estimated bills every other month.

Weโ€™re looking for a full-time temporary employee to help install ERTs and change out water meters throughout the community. The primary task is to change water meters and install encoder receiver transmitters (ERTs) via pre-scheduled customer site visits while also inspecting the customerโ€™s property for cross connections of the water system, but work also includes taking readings of water meter dials, inspecting meters and reporting irregularities to the Key Accounts & Meter Services Manager, and operating meter software programs.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

Changes and replaces water meters and their endpoints for periodic upgrades using adjustable wrenches and basic hand tools.

Inspects for cross connections, and recommends appropriate cross connection control.

Takes readings of water meter dials and records volume used.

Inspects meters for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections.

Reports broken seals or other irregularities to Meter Services Manager.

Sample of Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Completion of a High School Diploma.

Strong mechanical aptitude.

Familiar with general business computer applications.

Excellent customer service skills.

Starting Pay Rate: $22.97/hour
