Job description


DNV - Energy Systems is seeking a Business Energy Efficiency Engineer to join our New Mexico team supporting the PNM Business Energy Efficiency Programs (BEEP).
This is a high-accountability, results-driven position focused on engaging commercial, industrial, governmental, and multifamily customers; supporting trade allies.
The ideal candidate will have experience with building energy performance (e.g., lighting, HVAC and their control systems, and building envelop components) to perform building audits (or assessments) and provide expert advice for customers while recommending specific upgrades to electric systems through exemplary customer service. You will also advise customers on the improved efficiency that the upgrades will bring. This position will provide excellent customer service and help customers implement, improve and demonstrate their commitment to improved energy management in their building.
This position will be in our Albuquerque New Mexico or Phoenix, AZ, presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site.

What You'll Do
  • Conduct customer site audits and assessments, virtual and in-person, to verify existing equipment and operating conditions, and recommend energy-saving equipment installations and operational changes.
  • Recognize, identify, and catalog energy-saving equipment types, consulting with customers, facility managers, and contractors as needed. Identify and document opportunities for installing energy efficiency products.
  • Build rapport with customers on site. Educate customers about the energy efficiency program and advise them on energy-consuming equipment, such as lighting, HVAC, building envelope, and controls, in their facility.
  • Interpret customer billing data, meter data, rate information, and similar technical information, and communicate findings to customers in layperson terms.
  • Enter and analyze energy savings opportunity and customer building data using spreadsheets, report templates, and web-based tools. Author and edit weekly and monthly reports in accordance with client requirements and standards.
  • Review and verify energy savings calculations, and guide other staff on best practices across energy-saving technologies, including lighting, HVAC, fans, pumps, air compression, and industrial process applications.
  • Perform site-specific engineering analysis and evaluation of energy efficiency projects involving industrial process equipment such as pumps, fans, and compressed air systems, complex central plant systems, and advanced HVAC equipment. Assess existing and emerging measures, incorporating performance trends and operational data to support updates.
  • Complete technical and financial analyses for program applicants.
  • Perform building energy use assessments and building simulations using software packages such as eQuest, DOE2.2, EnergyPro, and Trace.
  • Communicate technical and program-related information through presentations, trainings, and stakeholder engagement events.

The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. Qualifications
What is Required
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or related field.
  • 1 year of related experience.
  • Able to lead and/or perform on-site and virtual audits and customer site visits across commercial, industrial, school, and government facility environments.
  • Strong customer service capability, including phone-based communication, with excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and grammar skills.
  • Proactively identifies customer needs and manages customer expectations.
  • A positive, collaborative, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in time-critical situations; productive and self-motivated.
  • Advanced Excel skills; intermediate MS Word skills.
  • Occasional evening or weekend event attendance.
  • Willing and able to travel 10% of the time within New Mexico, including some overnight travel. Most travel will be within the Albuquerque metro area.
  • Reliable transportation and a current driver's license.
  • Able to lift 20 lbs to waist height, climb a ladder, kneel, crawl, and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

What is Preferred
  • 2+ years of relevant engineering or field work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with energy audits and energy codes/standards (IECC, ASHRAE, etc.)
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lighting components, HVAC equipment, HVAC and lighting control systems, and building envelope components.
  • Experience with M&V under IPMVP.
  • Familiarity with eQuest or similar building simulation software.
