Job description

SJMC attracts more than 300 physicians in most disciplines, with leading edge technology, including the largest and strongest MRI in Michigan. As a not-for-profit hospital, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea reinvests its profits back into the community through programs to serve the poor and uninsured, manage chronic conditions like diabetes, health education and promotion initiatives, and outreach for the elderly.

General Summary: The Food Service Worker position is responsible for a variety of activities involved in the preparation, processing, presentation, and delivery of food for the organization.

This is a Part Time position with rotating shifts and working every other weekend. As a food service worker you will be trained to work in each station within the cafeteria, kitchen and dish room.

Functions:

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend and stoop, sort and pick up repetitively dishes and silverware. Must be able to work quickly with both hands. Must be able to read tray ticket while on Room Service Line. Performs a variety of food service support functions:

  • Delivers meals, supplies, and equipment to other departments of the hospital
  • Prepares the dish room for washing service ware
  • Assembles all items needed to run room service
  • Serves patient breakfast, lunch and dinner meals
  • Cleans work station after meals served
  • Retrieves patient meal carts, disassembles, washes dishes, and restocks
  • Completes shift end cleaning assignments, checks out with supervisor

Requirements:

Required Education, Experience and Certification/Licensure

Some prior food service experience is preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

Must possess the ability to read and write, basic math skills are helpful
