Job description


Navy Federal Credit Union currently does not provide sponsorship for this role. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
The Government Relations Advisor is responsible for managing strategic engagement with key government entities and political stakeholders. This role focuses on building and maintaining relationships with federal agencies, congressional committees, and political party representatives to advance Navy Federal's public policy objectives.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive government relations strategies to support Navy Federal's policy priorities.
  • Serve as a senior liaison and lead engagement with key Executive Branch offices, Offices of Congressional Committee Chairs, other key Congressional staff, and regulators.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with political party representatives and staff.
  • Represent Navy Federal in high-level meetings, briefings, and policy forums.
  • Provide strategic guidance on political and regulatory developments that may impact the organization.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Military Affairs, Legal, Compliance, Risk) to align advocacy efforts and policy messaging.
  • Support the development of briefing materials, talking points, and strategic communications for senior leadership.
  • Advise on political dynamics and legislative opportunities to advance Navy Federal's interests.
  • Lead or contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives that enhance Navy Federal's visibility and influence in the public policy space.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, operations analysis, legal studies, or the equivalent combination of training, education and experience
  • 5 to 7+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, or legislative affairs.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic advocacy plans.
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in navigating complex political and regulatory environments.
  • Ability to operate independently and exercise extensive judgment in high impact situations.

Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MPA, JD, MA in Public Policy).
  • Deep expertise in legislative and regulatory processes, particularly those affecting financial services.
  • Thorough knowledge of the current and future challenges facing the credit union movement.
