Wellness Navigator/ CBT

Fitometry Health Club

Ridgewood, NJ

$20 - $26.25/hr

Full-time

Posted 27 days ago

Job description

Fitometry Health Club is where innovation meets fitness. We combine state-of-the-art technology with a high-energy culture to deliver a frictionless, performance-driven member experience. We’re seeking a Wellness Navigator to guide, support, and drive meaningful change throughout each member’s fitness journey.

Role Overview

The Wellness Navigator is the psychological and behavioral architect of a member’s health journey. This role serves as the primary point of contact for members bridging physical training with sustainable habit formation. Using evidence-based principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing, the Wellness Navigator helps members understand the why behind their behaviors and drives consistent, long-term adherence to wellness goals.

This is not a personal training role. The Wellness Navigator focuses on mindset, accountability, lifestyle execution, and behavioral change using a structured, data-driven, and “tough-love” coaching approach. By addressing the psychological and behavioral barriers that prevent consistency, this role ensures that fitness becomes a sustainable lifestyle—not a short-term effort.

Core Responsibilities

  • Personalized Accountability: Conduct weekly check-ins to review progress, analyze setbacks, and reinforce the obligation to act.
  • Behavioral Auditing: Identify counterproductive habits (e.g., poor sleep, high stress, or lack of discipline) and work with members to replace them with sustainable high-performance routines.
  • Outcome-Driven Goal Setting: Help members define measurable "SMART" goals and create a detailed roadmap for achieving them, separate from their physical exercise plan.
  • Tough Love Feedback: Provide objective, direct, and sometimes challenging feedback when members falter, ensuring they remain focused on their long-term intentions.
  • Knowledge-to-Practice Bridge: Educate members on nutrition, recovery, and mindset principles, ensuring they know how to apply this information outside the gym walls.
  • Progress Tracking: Use data and performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of the member's lifestyle strategy, making aggressive adjustments when needed.
  • Education and awareness: The publishing and issuance of best practices, tips and guidance to our member base and general audience

Skills & Experience

  • High proficiency in Motivational Interviewing and CBT-based coaching techniques
  • Strong background or experience in psychology, counseling, social work, or behavior management
  • Working knowledge of metabolic health and the lifestyle implications of modern obesity medications
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and coaching presence
  • Exceptional goal-setting, action-planning, and progress-tracking abilities

Persona & Coaching Style

  • Firm, confident, and solution-driven coaching style
  • Comfortable delivering direct, objective feedback
  • Able to hold members to a high standard of personal responsibility while remaining supportive and results-focused
  • Recovery-first mindset, integrating sleep, stress management, and emotional regulation into all wellness strategies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Behavioral Science, Social Work, or a related field preferred
  • Preferred certifications include:
    • National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBHWC)
    • ACE Behavior Change Specialist
    • Other recognized Behavioral Change or Wellness Coaching certifications
