Medical Sales Engineer information

What is a medical sales engineer?

Medical Sales Engineers are professionals who combine technical knowledge of medical devices and equipment with strong sales skills. They work with hospitals, clinics, and healthcare professionals to introduce, demonstrate, and sell complex medical technologies. Their role often includes providing product training, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Medical Sales Engineers act as a vital link between medical manufacturers and healthcare providers, ensuring that the right products are delivered and properly utilized. They must stay updated on the latest advances in medical technology and regulatory requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by medical sales engineers when introducing new medical devices to healthcare facilities?

Medical Sales Engineers often encounter challenges such as navigating complex hospital procurement processes, addressing stringent regulatory requirements, and overcoming resistance to change from medical staff accustomed to existing equipment. Building trust with clinicians and demonstrating the clinical and economic benefits of new devices are essential for successful adoption. Additionally, staying updated on product knowledge and providing ongoing training and support to clients are key aspects of the role that help foster long-term relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a medical sales engineer?

To thrive as a Medical Sales Engineer, you need a solid background in biomedical engineering or a related technical field, combined with experience or education in sales. Familiarity with CRM software, medical devices, and relevant certifications such as Certified Medical Sales Professional (CMSP) are commonly required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, persuasive communication, and the ability to build strong client relationships help you stand out in this role. These capabilities ensure effective product representation, customer satisfaction, and successful sales outcomes in a highly competitive healthcare market.

Job description

Company Description

MEDFAR Clinical Solutions was founded in 2010 by two aeronautical engineers who realized that the healthcare system was not exploiting the full potential of technology. Supported by a large community of medical experts and focused on clinical success and patient safety, MEDFAR was the first company to certify a cloud-based Electronic Medical Record in Canada: MYLE (Make Your Life Easy).

Committed to promoting excellence and effectiveness in healthcare worldwide, MEDFAR differentiates itself by offering a unique healthcare management solution for clinics, which replaces inefficient processes with a faster and safer technological alternative.

Job Description

As our first Chief Revenue Officer, you will own the full revenue engine — spanning Sales, Marketing, and Partnerships. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will architect and execute a go-to-market strategy that accelerates ARR growth and positions MEDFAR as the leading EMR provider in Canada. This is a highly cross-functional, highly visible role for a builder who thrives in fast-paced, SaaS scale-up environments and understands how to optimize the full subscription lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and own the company's revenue strategy, with a focus on ARR growth and expansion revenue.
  • Build rigorous forecasting, pipeline management, and SaaS metrics reporting (MRR/ARR, CAC, LTV, churn, NRR).
  • Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to overall company strategy and board-level discussions.
  • Own pricing and packaging strategy in partnership with Product and Finance to maximize contract value and reduce friction to purchase.

Sales

  • Lead, coach, and scale a high-performing sales organization across inside sales, field sales, enterprise and public accounts.
  • Design and optimize the end-to-end sales process, from prospecting through close.
  • Establish sales compensation structures, quotas, and incentive programs aligned with growth objectives.

Marketing

  • Oversee demand generation, brand, product marketing, and content strategy.
  • Ensure tight alignment between marketing programs and pipeline/revenue goals.
  • Drive messaging and positioning that resonates with both privately owned primary care clinics and public primary care entities, accounting for their distinct procurement processes, budgets, and decision-making structures.

Partnerships & Alliances

  • Identify, negotiate, and manage strategic partnerships, channel relationships, and distribution alliances.
  • Develop a partner ecosystem that expands market reach and accelerates revenue growth.
  • Work closely with the Product team to structure commercially impactful deals.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with the Product team to ensure market needs are reflected in the roadmap.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team on pricing strategy, revenue modeling, and budgeting.
  • Work with HR to recruit, develop, and retain top revenue talent.
Qualifications
  • 12+ years of progressive revenue leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role (VP of Sales, VP of Revenue, or CRO).
  • Proven track record of scaling ARR in a growth-stage healthcare SaaS company.
  • Deep fluency in SaaS metrics and business model dynamics — ARR, MRR, CAC, LTV, NRR, churn, and expansion revenue.
  • Deep knowledge of the primary care landscape — including the operational and financial differences between privately owned clinics and public/government-funded primary care entities, their procurement cycles, and key buyer personas (practice owners, clinic directors, medical officers, etc.).
  • Experience leading and integrating Sales and Marketing functions in a SaaS environment, including sales-led growth motions.
  • Demonstrated success building and scaling strategic partnerships and channel programs.
  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to translate data into actionable go-to-market strategy.
  • Exceptional communication and executive presence; comfortable presenting to boards, investors, and C-suite stakeholders.

Preferred

  • Experience selling SaaS solutions into primary care settings — ideally across both private practice and public/community health environments.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Marketing Cloud.
  • MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Based in Montreal (QC), within reasonable proximity to a major airport, with the ability to travel frequently — domestically and internationally — as required.

Additional Information

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary
  • Performance-based bonus tied to revenue targets
  • Meaningful equity package
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Flexible with a preference for regular in-office presence at our locations
  • Opportunity to shape the commercial future of a company improving healthcare outcomes

What Success Looks Like in Your First 12 Months

  • 0–3 months: Deep immersion into the business — you've audited the existing sales process, marketing funnel, and partnership pipeline; built strong relationships across the executive team and key stakeholders; and established a clear, data-driven baseline of revenue performance and SaaS metrics.
  • 3–6 months: A refined GTM strategy is in place, with aligned targets, updated messaging for both private clinic and public primary care segments, and early wins in pipeline growth or partnership agreements. The Sales and Marketing teams have clarity on priorities and accountability structures.
  • 6–12 months: Measurable ARR growth is on track, CAC and LTV trends are moving in the right direction, and at least one significant partnership or channel agreement is operational. You've built a high-performing, motivated revenue team and established MEDFAR as a recognized name in the Canadian primary care SaaS market.
