Job description

Patient Care Assistant (Medical Surgical) Duties:

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) performs tasks for patients’ Activities of Daily Living to promote comfort and safety, assists RN with the collection of patient data and performs selected procedures. Complies with established standards and procedures.

    1. Under the direction of the nurse, perform patient care, treatments and procedures within training and competence level.
    2. Provide the patient assistance with activities of daily living such as feeding ambulating, turning, and positioning.
    3. Assist the RN with the collection of patient data such as, but not limited to, the following examples: blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, pulse oximetry, patient weight, intake & output, blood glucose and urine testing.
    4. Promptly and courteously respond to patient call lights and provide the patient assistance within the scope of the position.
    5. Consistently conduct patient care rounds and observe patient activity. Notify the nurse immediately when a change in patient condition is identified.
    6. Accurately and promptly document patient care activities in the medical record. 
    7. Recognize the occurrence of life-threatening situations and emergencies and take the appropriate actions in a timely manner
    8. Clean, organize, and restock the patient room and department work area.
    9. Complete all assigned education, training, and learning requirements within the scheduled time frame.

Patient Care Assistant (Medical Surgical) Requirements:

  • Entry Level
  • High School or Equivalent (GED)
  • Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Salary Range: $17.00 to $26.50/hr (based on experience)

  • Evening and night shift differential available
