Medical Receptionist

Des Peres, MO

This is a full-time, long-term position. Unfortunately, we CANNOT accommodate students looking for only a summer job or that would need to work part-time during the school year.

Job Title: Medical Receptionist (Patient Coordinator) Company: Ophthalmology Associates Location: Des Peres, MO Travel: Travel to our other clinics in the St Louis metro area and Sullivan, MO will be required as needed. We do pay mileage reimbursement! Perks

Hours:

  • Full Time
  • Our offices are open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. You may need to work a little earlier/later as needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Favorable result on Background Check
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excitement to learn and grow

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate patient flow
  • Verify medical and vision insurances
  • Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
  • Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in person requests

Summary

A Patient Coordinator is trained to act as the first point of contact for our patients where they set the tone for the patient's visit through excellent patient care. This employee will also perform the necessary administrative responsibilities needed to create a smooth check-in/out experience for patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone). Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave
  • Answer phones (both external and internal); assure prompt, courteous service at all times
  • Practice urgency at all times with patients' time, as well as Doctor's time and schedule
  • Manage patient flow in the office
  • Knowledge of common fees charged for common visits and collect correct payments
  • Complete daily reconciliations / close day / countdown cash drawer
  • General office duties and cleaning to be assigned by manager

Qualifications

  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all times
  • Desire to gain industry knowledge and training
  • Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals
  • Ability to grow, adapt, and accept change
  • Consistently creating a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused
  • Commitment to work over 40 hours to meet the needs of the business
  • Reliable transportation that would allow employee to go to multiple work locations with minimal notice

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum Required: One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Licenses and Credentials

  • Minimum Required: None

Systems and Technology

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

Physical Requirements

  • This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25โ€“50%). Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuityโ€”including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focusโ€”is required 100% of the time. Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary.
