General Summary
Odessa College is seeking an experienced, certified Part-time (Online) Continuing Education Medical Assistant Instructor to deliver high-quality instruction in a 9-month medical assisting program. The instructor will teach core medical assisting topics, including clinical and administrative procedures, medical terminology, pharmacology, medical law and ethics, patient communication, exam preparation, and clinical externship support.
Employment is contingent on enrollment per term, and the position is strictly part-time with a maximum of 19 hours per week.
Specific Position Duties
  • Commitment to upholding high ethical and professional standards.
  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive instruction to students in accordance with program objectives.
  • Develop and update course materials and resources to align with program requirements.
  • Employ a combination of face-to-face instruction and the use of Blackboard Ultra Learning for a blended learning experience.
  • Maintain a productive and organized classroom environment conducive to student success.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through assignments, exams, and practical demonstrations.
  • Communicate effectively with students, provide timely feedback, and address their academic needs.
  • Communicate with students who are absent to ensure they remain engaged in the program.
  • Participate in program development, improvement, and curriculum alignment activities.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, healthcare regulations, and instructional best practices.
  • Attend instructor trainings, in-service meetings, and other college events as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field, Certificate of Completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program, or equivalent experience.

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.

  • Prior teaching experience is a plus.
