Job Overview:
The Medical Secretary performs secretarial and administrative duties utilizing knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Responsibilities include scheduling appointments, billing patients, compiling and maintaining medical charts, preparing reports, and handling correspondence. The role requires strong communication skills, proper English usage, attention to detail, and the ability to support medical office operations through accurate recordkeeping and administrative coordination. Depending on assignment needs, the position may also require the ability to take and transcribe complex medical dictation.
Job Duties:
โข Schedule patient appointments
โข Bill patients and maintain related documentation
โข Compile and record medical charts
โข Prepare reports and correspondence
โข Maintain medical records and documentation
โข Perform general clerical and administrative duties
โข Utilize medical terminology in daily operations
โข Support hospital, clinic, or laboratory administrative processes
โข Take and transcribe medical dictation when required
