A non-profit critical access hospital, we house 20 beds in our acute care facility and 35 beds in our nursing facility. With three operating rooms, a procedure room, and advanced technology, we provide excellent care for our surgical patients. Our recently constructed 24,000 square foot medical office provides valuable access, accommodations, and services to the community. FCMC was recognized as one of the "Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals" in the nation for four consecutive years from 2017 to 2020. WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR FCMC
Our Physician Coders are responsible for completing all coding related to the physician offices in a timely and efficient manner. More specifically, some of the Physician Coders' important responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing documentation to ensure capture of all diagnoses and procedures
  • Coding all surgical procedures performed by the Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, OBGYN, and Behavioral Health
  • Ensuring coded services, provider charges, and medical record documentation meet appropriate guidelines or standards
  • Ensuring that all documented professional services are submitted and billed promptly
  • Communicating effectively with physicians and staff regarding coding and documentation concerns or issues
  • Working as a team member within the Business department, assisting with other duties when needed

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of RHC-CBS certification with 12 months of hire
  • 1-2 years of experience in medical coding or related medical field preferred
  • Must know about ICD-10-CM and CPT coding
  • Must have the ability to operate standard office equipment and computers
  • Must exemplify good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Must have ability to problem-solve and work independently and efficiently
  • Must be detail-oriented and accurate

Essential Job Functions:
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Must have normal range of eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment
  • Requires sitting, bending, stooping, and stretching
  • Requires lifting paper or boxes up to 35 pounds when needed
  • Must comply with HIPAA and patient privacy
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required to maintain infection control standards
  • Must submit to COVID-19 testing as required by CMS and other regulatory agencies according to FCMC policy
  • Must have full COVID-19 vaccination (some exemptions allowed)

Work Environment:
  • FCMC operates 24 hours per day each day of the year; operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the patients
  • This role is performed under typical office conditions with a low noise level
